â Drabble list - send me one, or two, or three â
The week had finally come to an end and it just so happens so did Mary Poppinsâ birthday. Every year sheâd deny the fact and insist the day go by unrecognized, but despite her objections Belle refused to let such an important day pass without any acknowledgement. Perhaps that was because Maurice had always made Belleâs birthday as special as he could growing up and even still to this day. Birthdays were the one day a year that was dedicated to you.    Â
âI will pick you up after work.â Belle replied, excitedly into the phone. Admittedly Belle didnât get to go out very much. She already spent her days at work so she made sure the rest of the day and weekends were for spending time with Adam and the children. It was rare, but Adam assured her they would be fine without her and so she was looking forward for taking Mary out to dinner to celebrate. âI donât see why this is necessary.â Mary replied, begrudgingly. âBecause itâs your birthday and after a long week we both deserve a night out.â Belle insisted. Mary gave a small huff, but decided it wasnât worth the argument. âIf I must, I must.â    Â
As the night progressed the two seemed to be having a wonderful time away from work and husbands and children. For once it was just Belle and Mary; a much needed girlâs night. By this point Belle had her fair share of Chardonnays and Mary, Rum Punches. Luckily Bert had offered to pick them up after so they wouldnât have to call a cab.    Â
âAlright Mary, I promised I wouldnât bring a cake, but we are having a Birthday shot in your honor.â Belle insisted, waving the bartender over. Maryâs eyes widened, almost appalled by the notion. âWe most certainly are not.â She insisted to which Belle rolled her eyes and ignored. âBelle, I have no intention of making a spectacle of myself.â Belle turned back to Mary with a laugh. âYou should have thought of that two Rum Punches ago.â She teased. âDonât worry, youâll like this.â Finally the bartender arrived. âWeâll have a lemon drop and gingerbread shot, please.â Belle ordered and Mary, who was about to intervene, stopped herself. She did love gingerbread.
