As I was scanning the web I stumbled across the image of this cute little slimy guy. It turns out that this poor and (not so little) creature is unfortunately on the endangered species list. This intriguing creature is identified as a purple frog or a pig-nosed frog, scientific name Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis. When I first found this picture online I was a little startled. (If you are EVEN MORE CURIOUS to find out information on this creature check out this link http://www.arkive.org/purple-frog/nasikabatrachus-sahyadrensis/ ). No offense to the little guy...but he’s not the most adorable frog out there. Attempting to scare my friends a little bit I sent out a few pictures over text to see if anyone had ever heard of a purple frog before. To my surprise...one of my friends claimed he had seen it on discovery channel but not ever in real life, due to the fact this frog is located throughout India.
As I continued to research more and more information on this creature it turns out the purple frog is on of the only remaining group of amphibians that evolved over 130 million years ago. This is super upsetting due to the fact it is now an endangered species and may not have many years left on this Earth. This frog is super recognizable out in the wild due to its super short and cue limbs and bloated body. The best way to save this animal is to create a species action plan and hope the local community in India care enough to save this innocent creatures life.
A vast majority of people may have never seen this creature ever in their lifetime due to the fact it constantly burrows under the ground and enjoys hiding from people. Surprisingly only coming to the surface a small part of the year to breed the purple frog can bury itself a few feet under the ground.....so good luck to ever finding this creature!!!
