Arguably his least favorite place in all of Unova (and the world), Castelia City was still very much an eyesore to Touya, even if it had been years since he had last had the misfortune of stepping foot upon its over-populated and claustrophobic streets. Inhaling once was enough to bring a flood of sterile cleaner they used on stuffy office buildings, day-old trash from the dimly lit alleys, and grime from the sewers below into his less than thrilled nostrils. He’d never been one for cities, and this little visit served as an unwelcome reminder of the fact that he hated every inch of this place. It didn’t help that he wanted little to do with Unova as a whole anymore, but there were times when he had to drag himself back to his home region in order to collect himself and search for pieces he was never going to find. He never stayed long, and he tried to avoid speaking with others as much as humanly possible. Nothing good had ever come from Unova for him, and he’d rather avoid conflict if he could. Needless to say, forcing himself to return to this city of all places was not only the last thing he wanted to do, but also the set up for complete disaster.
Pressing his hand against his chest, he heaved out into the windy, dense air in a pitiful attempt to catch his breath. He had hoped, in the time he had been away, he would have faded from the region’s memory. However, he had been sorely mistaken, a chance breeze had toppled his hood over and sent him weaving through various alleyways to avoid the curious questions of onlookers and the frenzy of the press that followed. Apparently, a decent portion of the region had assumed him dead. Great, and maybe he was better off six feet under when it was all he could do to slip away in an alley tucked tightly against one of the many apartment buildings to avoid their endless onslaught of inane questions. He had tried to lie at first, but that hadn’t gotten him terribly far. Thankfully, if there was one thing he happened to be good at, it was running away. And he managed to excuse himself from the situation before they had been managed to snap a picture of more than Ari’s retreating tail.Â
Wheezing in an attempt to catch his breath he made a mental promise to himself to never set foot in this cursed city again. With what little energy and disdain he still possessed, he yanked his hood up high over his head and straightened himself out. He couldn’t imagine they would waste too much time searching for him when they could better spend it nagging someone who was far more relevant than he must be (then again, people thinking you’re dead apparently makes you very relevant when you causally show up). For now, though, he’d have to stay put until they gave up. He’d never been terribly social, and he was hardly ready to face Unova (in fact, he never planned on explaining himself anyone, let alone to his home region). Avoiding people, though, that was something he happened to be good at.Â
“Don’t they ever get bored?” He groaned, glancing over to the Liepard sat beside him. Her ears were curved forward as her rough tongue licked away at the dirt that had collected on the bottoms of her paws as a result of their temporary shelter. Leaning against the hard brick of the building behind him, he crossed his hands behind his head. Might as well relax for a second. Or, well, he had planned to until a low hiss from Ari alerted him to the sound of footsteps echoing against the walls. Fantastic. He’d never been a lucky person, but, frankly, he’d never met someone more unlucky than he just so happened to be.
“Can’t you find something better -” Turning in the direction of the footsteps, he let out a sigh of relief when he wasn’t greeted by the sight of an ugly camera and bright lights being shoved into his face. That relief didn’t last long; however, when he realized he had nearly spat at someone who had been completely uninvolved in his earlier torment. Embarrassed, he rubbed the back of his neck with his hand, and stepped out of the other’s way. “Sorry about that, I mistook you for someone else.” While it was true, it wasn’t really the best excuse in the book either.   Â
