Tony Molina - “In The Fade.” Uniquely familiar fuzzed out power pop hooks with some soft boi’s thrown in. 4. @chained_bliss - “Chained Bliss.” The perfect combination of weirdo punk and technical talent. 5. Whimsyland - “Chadd Derkins Presents: Whimsyland.” The PPMB collectively soundtracking a manic romp through America’s bed non-existent theme park. 6. @drugchurch - “Hygiene.” Fully realized and heavier than ever. 7. @theeradicator - “Forever The Eradicator.” History has sided with this, the better (and funnier) of the masked-band punk rock shticks. Their best record yet. 8. @stiffrichardsband - “Stiff Richards.” This repress (or whatever) counts as 2022 because I said so. I’s that good. 9. @lotionmnc - “W.A.R. In The Digital Realm.” Remember that video game boss you couldn’t quite beat? Well they just released an album and it’s great. 10. @nobromusic - “Live Your Truth Shred Some Gnar.” Hooks! riffs! attitude! sex appeal! Numbers 1-10 : : 1. @ramones - “The Sire Albums 1981-1989.” Some argue 80’s Ramones are the best. Their wrong, but not by that much. Great set. 2. @joestrummer & The Mescaleros- “Joe Strummer 002: The Mescaleros Years.” Worth it for Vibes Compass alone. Add in all their full lengths and this is IT. 3. Various - “First Six @dischordrecords.” Beautiful collection. Remember that time you were straight edge? It’s ok, no one else does. 4. @theslackersband - “Wasted Days.” Their second best record gets a great reissue. I was happy when I went to pick it up (pick it up pick it up). 5. @thebriefs - “Singles Only in 3D.” Two new songs and 3D glasses? Sign me up. 6. @cobraskulls - “Eagle Eyes.” The beginning of the ending for a band never sounded so great. 7. @thelibertines - “Up The Bracket.” Britpop dripping in nostalgia. The live record is surprisingly great too. 8. @offofficial - “First Four EPs.” Their best songs, now without having to get up and turn over 45’s. 9. @boburnham - “Inside: Deluxe.” The box design alone should win awards. The bonus songs and instrumentals are icing on the cake. 10. Pinhead Gunpowder - “Compulsive Disclosure.” Rounding out the @1234gorecords Represses. I like the slower jams on here as the production really highlights the riffs and harmonies Jason is able to pull off. Five Hundred Bucks - “$500” released on April 29th, 2022. ——————————————————— 12” / LP : : One of my favorite local musicians has been Jeff Riddle. Between Scarier Area, Bella Vista Social Club, and Holy Mess, I’ve always been in awe of their effortless talent and good guy nihilistic charm. When I saw the horror comedy Uncle Peckerhead with Jeff playing a singer in a punk band with a cannibalistic roadie, I was happy that the world may be getting a taste of what Philly has been hoarding. Thankfully the songs Jeff wrote for that “fake” band are seeing a proper vinyl release in “$500.” This release feels like two warring sides of the self-deprecating brain fighting for control; bluesy rock & roll slide guitar weirdness and hard punk rock PBR-drenched swagger. He’s joined live by the talented philly-based musician Connor Byrne (of Brackish and Mt. Ida), offering up the perfect background vocals for this. A lesser band would fail at tracking this record, but Jeff and Co. find the right mix to make it a really fun ride. Songs both for the party and the after-party.
