Ok but what if Rick abandoned his original reality, not because he had already ruined it, but rather he knew that eventually he would destroy it, no matter how much he tried to avoid it.
Maybe the scene in Rickshank Redemption was partially based off of some truth. Maybe Rick really was offered a portal gun and he took it to explore the universe (but not so much he was abandoning his family) or joined the Citadel and then saw that Rick's usually destroy their reality and have to move.
Maybe Evil Morty is mad Rick left him and never came back. I think Morty would feel really lost and displaced if he had to stay on Earth and never go on adventures again. Maybe Evil Morty is trying to kill Ricks so Mortys don't have to suffer from Ricks abandoning them, or dying, or constantly putting them in danger?
I'm not really sure how to wrap up this theory, but I just thought "how sad would it be if Rick didn't even leave because he destroy his reality, maybe he just knew how dangerous he was to his own family."
It would explain all the memories and pictures Rick has of being with young Morty. Rick was a good dad and a good grandpa, so he made a sacrifice to keep his family alive because he loved his family so much that he just left them to keep them safe from himself.
if you haven't seen the ep yet, dw this is all you need to know
