I feel like I've been DNF'ing books more often lately.
Perhaps this is a good sign that I'm getting pickier and more critical of what I read.
Though maybe I should be picking better things to read to begin with.
Y'know speaking of Danganronpa Amino
Does anyone from there remember that one viral post with a photo of a Sayaka Nendoroid on a little scooter and the caption was something like "repost so she can scoot around the world"? It was colloquially known as "Sayaka Scoot" and people would repost the shit out of it even years later. It was probably the most-liked post in the entire community.
It was such a neat and joyful little thing and I remember feeling so giddy every time Sayaka and her little scooter appeared in my following feed.
Re: last reblog I'm reminded of how, by the time I left Danganronpa Amino for good, there was a whole Thing where people would comment on fanfic/fanart/etc posts to ask the OP to put a trigger warning for the character or ship featured. No, it wasn't just "problematic" ships or characters, you could literally post about like, Chihiro or Naegiri and still get people wanting TWs.
In fairness, Amino as a platform had like NO filtering system to speak of, the best you could do was block anyone who posted a lot of whatever you really didn't want to see. There was a half-baked hashtag system where, again, you couldn't filter the results at all. Even so, from what I remember people did generally put the most prominent characters/ships in the post title.
In any case, the issue got so bad that there was an official mod post discouraging those kinds of comments and offering solutions for people who needed a way to filter stuff out. They even went over the difference between "trigger" and "squick." And I thought that was really cool of them because like, yeah, one of my main thoughts at the time was "feels like most of these people are squicked rather than triggered" and how weird it'd feel for me to put a TW for my OTP, especially since I generally only do TWs for the Big Things (suicide, SA/rape, gore, etc)
It was just such a wild time in general, but yeah, kudos to the mod team of that era for handling it well.
I think I'm gonna relax my "read 5,000 pages worth of ebook" goal for this year because uhhhhh I've been failing it miserably ๐ญ I want reading to be a relaxing hobby more than a burden so I think I'm just going to accept that I'm slow as fuck when it comes to reading books via text lol

Something you come to realise very quickly about book Reddit is that it's really not all that different from Booktok. Both endlessly hype the shit out of the same few titles that turn out to be kinda mid at best, and both are generally more concerned with earning the title of Readerโข than genuinely enjoying reading.
The main difference is that Booktok is biased towards romance, spice and weird girl lit, whereas Reddit prefers epic fantasy, Russian classics and Dungeon Crawler Carl.

Maybe this is an unpopular opinion but I don't think I'll ever be comfortable giving a star rating to a book I DNF'd, no matter how far I read. Even if I'm driven to write a review that rants and raves about all the reasons I DNF'd, I still won't give it a star rating. To my mind, star ratings are meant for books I've read in their entirety.
