The most seen that Jemma has felt in her entire life was when Ryan Gosling (as Ken) said that his job was Beach. (It was also when he thirsted after Margot Robbie the entire movie, because same). Jemma Sylvester, theoretically, should have been Sue's perfect child, the carbon copy of Susan Sue-Ann Sylvester, but alas, like Thomas Edison trying to make the lightbulb, she accidentally set her house on fire once. Jemma has never had a complex about being adopted. Her mom had a teenage pregnancy and honestly, had she been alive at the time, Jemma would have told her pal to give the baby up for adoption, too. If her mom's prefrontal cortex wasn't fully formed yet, there was no way that Jemma could have grown up into the silly, hilarious, and pretty young woman that she is, today. Childhood was relatively easy for Jemma, who always knew that she was in the best set of circumstances, even if Sue made her run laps every single morning to build character. In a lot of ways, Jemma knew that Sue meant well, and only wanted her daughter to be The Best, and Jemma never really minded it. Growing up in cheerleading was a lot of fun, and Jemma very quickly understood her athletic prowess, but things really changed for her when she joined the swim team in middle school. Jemma was compared, literally, to a fish, and all of her dreams of playing mermaids as a kid became reality. She was a far better swimmer than she was a cheerleader, and Jemma quickly realized that in being a Great Swimmer she was in turn being a Shitty Daughter. Jemma would never insinuate that Sue stopped caring about her once she became a champion swimmer, but Jemma became pretty desperate for her mom's attention and went too hard. She had to be the best-- the fastest, the prettiest, swim the hardest-- everything. She couldn't sustain it for very long, really, and eventually came crashing down very publicly at a swim meet. But, Sylvesters are not failures, and so Jemma was sent to a relaxation facility to get her head back on straight and then come out a winner again. Jemma was sent to the coast, and she found her true love and passion in animal rights. Literally save the whales. And the turtles. And Beach Ken.

Danny Sue Sylvester was born Daniel Michael Schuester, but had no idea of this at all. Will and Emma Schuester were overjoyed to find out that they were having a baby boy, their first child, and once he was born he was the apple of their eye. Until on some dark, cold night, someone stole away into their home and kidnapped baby Daniel, and punched Will in the face. The Schuesters fought long and hard to try and find their son, not stopping at any cost, including pooling together a lot of money in a campaign to find him, but he was gone. A few years later though, under some strange coincidence, Will's rival Sue Sylvester had announced that she'd adopted herself a toddler who she named Danny, in honor of the Schuester's missing boy that they still hadn't found.

Growing up as the son of Sue Sylvester doesn't exactly mean that Danny had a normal childhood. In high school his grades weren't great and his teachers threatened to hold him back a few years but after a brief conversation with his mother the subject was soon dropped, and Danny found himself getting straight A's and also being handed a lot more things. He was soon quarterback of the football team, captain of the basketball team, dating the head cheerleader with really rich parents and a model for his mother's athleisure wear company, and he didn't have to lift a finger, it was great. Deciding he wanted to play football professionally, and hinting to his mother that the Philadelphia Eagles were the team he wanted to play for, he headed to PSU to major in marketing in case Sue ever needed his help with the company.

But things wouldn't be that perfect forever. When home for the holidays during his second year, Danny was searching through the house for his birth certificate to make a copy of it for future use as his mother was always the one to handle that sort of stuff. But he couldn't find it and instead found some interesting paper work about a baby boy born the same day as him, and mentions of bribery and blackmail to certain doctors and police chiefs. Sue soon caught him snooping around in her room, (which she normally kept heavily guarded but he'd found a way in when he was fourteen and never told her) and he questioned her about everything he had just read, getting angry and yelling, Sue had to come clean and tell him everything. Danny was shocked, betrayed, furious, so many different things and he couldn't believe that he was actually the biological son of the couple that his mother had taught him to hate. He quickly stormed out and never looked back, dropping all contact with his mother and his siblings.

In his time away Danny spiralled out of control, getting into a lot of trouble and fights and even getting arrested a few times. But although he refused to talk to his mother, he still milked money from her for his bail, deciding not to change his surname to make it easier to have that connection back to her. Soon enough Sue cut him off, saying that if he was truly a Sylvester and not a weak, pathetic Schuester, then he'd stop being an embarrassment. Danny's response was to block her number and try to make it on his own. It didn't work exactly and he jumped from job to job trying to make ends meet, even ending up homeless at one point, making him even more bitter towards his mother. But now to finally get one back at her and cause some more chaos he's settled in LA, planning on telling the Schuester's everything. And getting a job near PSU so he can keep an eye on all his siblings. He doesn't blame any of them for what happened and still cares about them in his own weird way, plus he wants to get to know his other siblings, the Schuesters, too.

ABOUT JONI

Joni was born on a sunny November afternoon, the first born of a set of twins to parents who decided not to keep their babies. When Sue Sylvester marched into the hospital to pick up the babies she had agreed to adopt she surprised the parents by letting them know that she’d just be taking the older twin, as she had no time for people who placed second. If you’re not first you’re a loser and Sylvesters are not losers. Though Joni doesn’t judge her birth parents for seeking better lives for their children, she DOES judge the fact that they willingly let a woman who called her twin a loser for simply being born second, take her home to raise her. 

But, maybe it was all for the best, because Joni became tough as nails thanks to her mother. As a kid, her competitive edge shown early on, excelling as a competitive cheerleader under Sue’s coaching, as well as in dance and gymnastics. She had a natural talent that paired well with her determination and constant hard work and practice. 

Though, thanks to Sue being…well, Sue, she needed to learn to protect herself emotionally rather early on. Her personality was as hard as her calf muscles, at least, that’s what she let the world see. Those who are closest to her know that deep down she is warm and compassionate. She is never unkind if she can help it, she just feels a certain detachment to most people and situations and keeps everyone at arm's length. 

After highschool, Joni continued to cheer, dance and compete in gymnastics for a college team, while gaining a degree in Kinesiology, studying the body and movement. She also became a certified personal trainer and started creating workout programs, and promoting them on Instagram and Tik Tok. The programs took off quickly, and Joni dove in head first, she’s become a fitness influencer, though she focuses on body positivity, strengthening, and overall health, NOT weight loss, or unhealthy expectations and standards. She took an interest in learning pole dancing when she was in college, and about a year ago opened a studio where she now gives pole dancing lessons, with a team working under her. Of course, she also uses her program and studio to help promote Sue’s clothing brand, not wanting to be disowned, and her clients do enjoy a small discount from buying through her, but that’s only a small part of her business and she likes to imagine that she’d be just as successful without the connection to her mother’s success. 

She’s just recently registered for classes at PSU, she’ll be getting her masters degree in nutrition and dietetics so that she can feel comfortable in launching a nutrition side to her Juicy Peach. She refuses to go in blind and doesn’t trust anyone else to commit to her vision of total health. She will not offer diet plans, and doesn’t trust anyone else to fully understand her need for the nutrition side of the company to remain about total health and never ever about being ‘skinny’.

Alessandra Sage Mannox was born as the second of the twins. Her older sister, Alison, never let her forget it– and Alessandra never did, even if she wanted to. She took her role as the younger twin with a grain of salt and half a smile. Her father, Troy Mannox, was a semi-famous jazz trumpeter in New Orleans, despite never really catching a break in mainstream music. Her mother, Natalie, worked as a private chef for local families. Alessandra was always known as being too smart for her own good. She was sharp, both in her mind and in the words she used. Alessandra was obsessed with reading as many books as she could get her hands on, which meant that her vocabulary was advanced even from a young age. She was reading by three, and stayed reading two grade levels above whatever she was supposed to. Her family had a nice house, and a happy home. Alessandra’s childhood was idyllic– until it wasn’t.

New Orleans is known for its paranormal activity– among other things– and Alessandra would swear to you and anyone else that the house she grew up in was haunted. Pretty harmless stuff, really, and nothing too terrible happened until the day the girls turned eleven. The Elder invited the girls over to her home for a weekend, and that’s when everything went wrong. That weekend, several things happened that could not be explained easily. Sure, it’s possible that when they walked into the Elder’s room, there was a stray wind that blew out all of the candles. But really, it seemed more like a warning. Also, there wasn’t a window open. Later that night, blood started pouring from the eyes of a holy figure’s statue in the bedroom they were sleeping in. Terrified, Alison called their mom and begged her to come and pick them up. But, it would have been disrespectful to leave the Elder’s home in the middle of the night, so their mom insisted they stay. Alessandra quickly decided to will herself to sleep, until they both heard scratching at the door. Alison swore she saw the door open and a shadow figure floated over to her bed, but Alessandra was half-asleep and swore it was some kind of night terror. Whether it’s possible to believe in the paranormal or not, it was clear that Alison was cursed after that weekend at the Elder’s.

Not long after, Alison was supposed to walk home from school after lacrosse practice, but she never made it home. Video footage showed her being taken in by a stranger, and she was never seen again. The Mannox family set out on a wild hunt for her, but it was the Elder who delivered the heart-stopping news. An entity, of whatever kind, had decided he wanted Alison, and that was that. Now, until her sister’s disappearance, Alessandra would have chalked all of this up as a bunch of hocus pocus, but to watch someone else so vehemently believe something could be true with little to no proof? It was astounding to her. She very quickly realized that religion– organized religion– wasn’t as much of a lie as she’d thought her entire life. Clearly, there was some truth to the beliefs that her family shared, if only because she herself could not believe the total certainty in which the Elder spoke. It was like watching someone comment on the weather, or the shape of the moon– it was a fact. Alison hadn’t been part of a tragic accident, she had been taken. She was part of the grander design of the universe, and one in which she had to be separated.

It would have been easier to believe that Alison had been taken by aliens, and Alessandra really did think that was a potential theory. She became rapidly obsessed with voodoo culture and the occult, trying to find and understand what had happened to her sister. The more she read into it, the more she attempted to speak with psychics and mediums, the more she even tried to summon her own demons– nothing gave her any clarity. Nobody could tell her what exactly had happened. She had no more answers and no closure. Her family was in shambles, and there was nothing she could do to make it any better.

Six months later, Katrina hit, and it took Alessandra’s parents with her.

Sue Sylvester swore that she literally flew down to NOLA in the post-hurricane insanity, plucked a tweenage Sage Sylvester out of the rubble of what had become her home and adopted her from the streets. But it wasn’t like that– Sage lived in the foster system for two years, and one day decided that her old name was going to die with the rest of her family. Sue Sylvester decided to bring her Cheerios down as a part of her “Cheerio UP!” program for disaster relief. Sage sat in the back, rolling her eyes, and immediately marched up to Sue Sylvester in the Sue-Sponsored Happy Hour (that was literally an attempt at making everyone happy) and asked why the fuck she thought a bunch of assholes in pleated skirts could bring any kind of cheer to families who had lost everything. Sue, thinking that adoption agencies worked like animal shelters, asked if she could take the bratty one home with her.

As a Sylvester, Sage didn’t ever really get by in her athletics, but she certainly got by in being as cutthroat, blunt, and ruthless as Sue herself. If Sue could imagine herself as a tiny, pink-haired person who could draw like none other, then she might have seen Sage reflected in a mirror. But, Sage’s athleticism stopped and began with hiking. Sue’s adoption was when she started going by Sage instead– new life, new name, right? Any hope of making something new for herself faded away, unfortunately, when they moved to a community where children had been friends since they were in diapers. A sullen, moody, pink-haired middle schooler wasn’t exactly on top of everyone’s list to be friends with. Sage hated LA because she couldn’t stand the sun. Sage didn’t make friends easily– or at all, really– and felt much better that way. After all, her best friend and greatest friend was watching out for her on the other side, right? She had every kind of protection from the supposed spirit realm, but it all seemed to completely dull her.

The only solace she truly found was in her art. With so many horrendous experiences in her life, Sage knew that the only way she could get everything out of her body was in putting it to paper. While she explored quite a few mediums over the course of her life, she found that painting and mixed media was her niche. Anything creative was where Sage thrived, and she finally was able to start to heal the trauma of her past. Sage got her Bachelor’s in Studio Art at PSU, but then– Twilight jokes aside– Sage had the opportunity to go off to college in Portland, Oregon, and got her masters in Art History. Originally, Sage’s podcast started out as a way to tell the story of their sister, but it quickly took off and became a sensation.

Sage was diagnosed with POTS this year and is even crankier than normal with the knowledge that their body doesn’t work properly. Sage is happy to work at an art gallery at PSU and still is finding time to work on their own art. As for the podcast, Sage decided to fully embrace the telling of stories. Their podcast focuses on things “Beyond the Veil”, whether it’s a missing person, a criminal case, or a story related to the paranormal. Sage reads stories from the community who sends them in, and it’s been one of their favorite segments so far. Mostly, Sage is happy to be able to tell the stories of other people who have gone missing, and is hoping that someday, someone might have concrete evidence for them as to what happened to Alison. Until then, they’ll be waiting Beyond the Veil…

Scientists estimate that 109 billion people have existed over the course of Earth’s history. 109 billion people who have drawn their first and last breaths on this great planet, each with a story of their own. Some more interesting than others. But of all 109 billion of those people, only one of them has had what it takes - the gusto, the fortitude, the cheekbones - to be the oldest child to a legend in the making. Dexter Sue Sylvester. The pleasure is all yours.  

Born in Bangladesh and adopted soon after, Dexter has seldom wanted for anything. His mother did try to give him a father figure, just to fill the spot on his adoption paperwork, but the guy was barely worth remembering and died in a mysterious honey badger incident just after Dexter’s first birthday so it's irrelevant (until he’s inevitably able to milk it in his yet-to-be-written, Pulitzer-winning memoir). Most of his childhood was spent sitting in on his mother’s practices, internalizing her cut-throat work ethic and learning early on that settling was for losers. 

Home was a different story. He’s been known to act ruthlessly when the media insinuates things about his family, taking on a protective role as the eldest child and oftentimes keeping his siblings from the brunt of the accusations. On one occasion during an in-home interview, Dexter made tabloid headlines at 9 years old for biting a reporter who accused his mother of virtue-signaling with her adoptions. There have been many who assume that Sue’s parenting is similar to her coaching practices. Ruthless, devoid of empathy, a breeding ground for chaos. This, as Dexter has stated many times to varying degrees of success, is far from true. Sure Sue’s high expectations were made clear at an early age, but there was also an unspoken understanding that they would never be asked for more than they could give. The Sylvester children were already destined for greatness by merit of being the Sylvester children. The love and care fostered within the family just isn’t something that most outsiders are deserving of.

Maybe this went to Dexter’s head a bit. Maybe. It’s true he lacked any inherent athleticism despite his mother’s attempt to get him involved as a child. And sure his boldness had a tendency to be off-putting when it came to socializing, limiting the number of close contacts he had growing up. There was a briefly lived modeling career that didn’t make it past high school due to his insistence that he knew his angles better than the photographers. But Dexter has always had a head for numbers, and the wherewithal to get things done no matter what. He found his niche not in his mother’s main line of work but in the finer aspects of her clothing company. He had a knack for finding the most lucrative accounting solutions that just so happened to reduce the number of workplace violations, so the Better Business Bureau could stop breathing down their necks. Getting his degree in finances and accounting was truly a no-brainer.

Plus, on a rarely seen sentimental level, Dexter finds a level of calmness when it comes to numbers. For all that it helped shape him into the person he is today, the high adrenaline environment of his youth could often be overwhelming. He wouldn’t tell his mother that, or any of his siblings, or anyone outside of the therapist he was court-mandated to see for 12 sessions following the biting incident. He did feel a kinship with Cady Heron when she spoke about her love for math, how it's the same in every language. There’s no need for a grey area that could be misinterpreted, potentially putting his family on the cutting block yet again because someone on the outside can’t look past their own idea of right vs wrong. Numbers will always have a solution, he will always be able to support his answer without questioning so long as he did his job right. If he just keeps doing things right, it’ll all be fine. It’s fine.

But enough of that introspection. Dexter is too smart and too pretty to say any of that outloud. He graduated from college with his undergraduate degree and quickly got to work reshaping his mother’s financial portfolio. The only reason he’s not been put in charge of the entire department is because his mother wants to first prove that the current head is stealing from them. But that’s another story. For now, the important part is this: Dexter is exactly where he’s supposed to be. He’ll continue to help keep his family in a carefully-documented lap of luxury, reap the hedonistic benefits of his pedigree, and go on the occasional Twitter-rant to defend his last name, all while desperately clinging to some semblance of control. Despite enjoying the company of men in her bedroom, pregnancy was never something Sue Sylvester envisioned for herself. Unfortunately for Sue, sternly telling her eggs not to allow anybody inside wasn’t quite the successful contraceptive method she hoped it would be, so when her belly began to swell too far to pass it of as just a big lunch, she had to admit to herself that her golden womb was invaded by a child. An independent woman with no desire to have her parenting style questioned by a second parent, Sue made no effort to inform the father—not that she knew exactly which one he was, but he got away easily, all things considered. Sue has been known, after all, to mysteriously “lose” partners since.

It wasn’t necessarily love at first sight when Sue first held baby Penny in her arms, however a rush of excitement did occur at the realization that this was a mini her—what could be more Sue than something literally grown within her body? “Penny Sue, we are going to create an army that is so Sue”, she whispered to the minutes-old baby, before climbing from Will Schuester’s dining table as if she hadn’t just birthed an entire human in the middle of his wife’s baby shower, and swept away to get to work on her plan of Sue-domination. Fortunately for Sue, Penny really would go on to emulate some of what she was trying to create: clever, hard-working, strong-minded. The makings of the perfect Sylvester child.

A direct product of the Sue Sylvester, as Penny grew, so did the pressure from both herself and her mother to fill the big shoes she came from. There was a lot of “Penny Sue, some day this will all be yours”, whenever Sue’s growing empire was mentioned—it was likely she said this to all of her children, and while Penny had no interest in the family business, she was quick to take the family under her wing in an attempt to pick up Sue’s slack—after all, parenting was only her fifth highest priority, so as the eldest girl, it became one of Penny's first. In an effort to help her siblings become well-rounded people, Penny tried hard to lead by the example Sue hadn’t set.

Maybe it was because she took over that parental role, or maybe it was because she was a product of Sue—or, maybe it was both—that Penny developed a thick skin, and for as nice as she was, when it came to her family especially, she took absolutely no prisoners. That attitude aside, extroverted and approachable, Penny had plenty of friends, and quickly became the "Mom friend" who people came to for advice and guidance, especially if they wanted someone to be straight up and real with them. She had big opinions and wasn't afraid to make them known, which to some was seen as empowering, whereas to others, they simply saw a mini Sue Sylvester. Sure, Sue was...Sue, but Penny was proud of her accomplishments and proud to be her daughter, though she wasn't trying to be her.

It had never been a secret to her that Sue hadn't planned her pregnancy with Penny, that her conception was entirely accidental, so faced with a positive pregnancy test of her own at the tender age of sixteen had her feeling more like Sue than ever. Penny didn't have a boyfriend, just a guy she would hook up with here and there, and she certainly didn't want a baby—maybe not ever, but especially not in her teens. She was already parenting her siblings, after all. So, a baby was out of the question, and as far as she was concerned, she had two options: abortion or adoption. It took a bit of thought before she made her final decision, but given how prevalent adoption had been within her own family, she eventually landed on that route for the baby growing in her womb, too.

It wasn't like handing over the baby she grew and nourished for nine months was exactly easy, but Penny has never and will never regret the decision she made to choose adoption, and a closed adoption at that. The baby, who would be nearing the age she was when she fell pregnant with him now, went to a sweet, eternally grateful couple who she has never had any inclination to check up on or contact; all she knows is they named him Jordan, and whenever she hears the name, she'll think about him, but not in a wistful way. Penny is not much a believer of "everything happens for a reason", but she does believe she was meant to carry Jordan for his parents, just like she believes she was meant to labor him in that exact hospital, with those exact staff members who made her experience what it was in comparison to how much more traumatic it could have been, because thanks to them, Penny figured out what she wanted to do with her life after high school.

Midwifery was a far cry from anything Sue-PerStar-related, but moved by the excellent care she received from her own midwives, she began to explore the career further, then applied to PSU's nursing program, where her Sylvester resilience helped her fare much better than some others in her classes. She would've liked to have stayed at PSU for the next part of her qualification too, but unfortunately they didn't offer a Nurse-Midwifery program, so Penny began to research other highly-rated institutions—highly-rated only because she wanted the best for her education, not for status—and found herself applying to Yale, her acceptance coming as a shock to her. Not more shocking, however, than meeting the man who would go on to become her now-husband out on the east coast. Fiercely independent and focused on her degree, a serious relationship was never in the plan, but both fell hard and fast, and when Logan proposed to Penny at the end of the first year of the program, the two were wed quickly after.

Unfortunately, they were young and in love with the idea of one another at that time, and as time has gone on, it has become apparent that the two want different things: among other differences, Logan would like to be a parent, whereas time, her teenage pregnancy and mothering her siblings has shown Penny she can think of nothing worse. This, added to them simply growing apart as they’ve grown up, has led to loss of love on both parts, and while nothing bad has happened, no scandals, no issues outside of their different desires, and he truly is a lovely man, they’re now just…not in love anymore. Cutting the ties may seem like the smartest option, especially for someone like Penny who has never quite lost her independence, but somewhere deep down, the fear of being compared to her mother, cycling through failed relationships, has her rooted into her marriage, and for whatever reason, Logan is clinging onto their now loveless union, too.

Although it may seem Penny is overcompensating for the failures in her relationship by throwing herself into her work, especially because she has taken on a new position as Director of Nurse-Midwifery at her alma mater in favor of her previous full-time midwifery job, that is not the case. Driven and hardworking, she enjoys her job...and being out of the house doesn't exactly hurt. This is the first year PSU has ever offered a Nurse-Midwifery program, and Penny is excited to be leading it. Throughout everything, Penny has remained driven, hardworking and principled, and likes to think that if anything, her eccentricities have only amplified with age. She’ll still often act like a parent figure to her siblings, but in spite of this, and of helping others bring their babies into the world, the very last thing she ever wants is still to be an actual mother herself.

ABOUT JONI

Joni was born on a sunny November afternoon, the first born of a set of twins to parents who decided not to keep their babies. When Sue Sylvester marched into the hospital to pick up the babies she had agreed to adopt she surprised the parents by letting them know that she’d just be taking the older twin, as she had no time for people who placed second. If you’re not first you’re a loser and Sylvesters are not losers. Though Joni doesn’t judge her birth parents for seeking better lives for their children, she DOES judge the fact that they willingly let a woman who called her twin a loser for simply being born second, take her home to raise her. But, maybe it was all for the best, because Joni became tough as nails thanks to her mother. As a kid, her competitive edge shown early on, excelling as a competitive cheerleader under Sue’s coaching, as well as in dance and gymnastics. She had a natural talent that paired well with her determination and constant hard work and practice. Though, thanks to Sue being…well, Sue, she needed to learn to protect herself emotionally rather early on. Her personality was as hard as her calf muscles, at least, that’s what she let the world see. Those who are closest to her know that deep down she is warm and compassionate. She is never unkind if she can help it, she just feels a certain detachment to most people and situations and keeps everyone at arm's length. After highschool, Joni continued to cheer, dance and compete in gymnastics for a college team, while gaining a degree in Kinesiology, studying the body and movement. She also became a certified personal trainer and started creating workout programs, and promoting them on Instagram and Tik Tok. The programs took off quickly, and Joni dove in head first, she’s become a fitness influencer, though she focuses on body positivity, strengthening, and overall health, NOT weight loss, or unhealthy expectations and standards. She took an interest in learning pole dancing when she was in college, and about a year ago opened a studio where she now gives pole dancing lessons, with a team working under her. Of course, she also uses her program and studio to help promote Sue’s clothing brand, not wanting to be disowned, and her clients do enjoy a small discount from buying through her, but that’s only a small part of her business and she likes to imagine that she’d be just as successful without the connection to her mother’s success. She’s just recently registered for classes at PSU, she’ll be getting her masters degree in nutrition and dietetics so that she can feel comfortable in launching a nutrition side to her Juicy Peach. She refuses to go in blind and doesn’t trust anyone else to commit to her vision of total health. She will not offer diet plans, and doesn’t trust anyone else to fully understand her need for the nutrition side of the company to remain about total health and never ever about being ‘skinny’.
