The Gelt-ji (literally “Weapon of Souls” in the Kirien language) is a two-handed glaive-like energy weapon that is useful both in close combat and at long distance. It, and certain variations, make up the bulk of the Kirien’s offensive weaponry.
The two main handheld varieties are Sumun and Dumun, meaning “Single and Double”, the meanings behind which speak for themselves. The Sumun is more standard, especially among inexperienced wielders or those who struggle with multitasking. However, those who do effectively wield a Dumun find that it is most useful in fending off large groups of surrounding enemies.
The outside ends of the operational end of a Gelt-ji are two asymmetrically-sized blades which serve more for slashing than for piercing. The inside contains the three nodes and two soul crystals which serve as the firing mechanism as shown in the above animation.
When in use, Gelt-ji are powered continually by “Soul Crystals”, a natuarlly-occurring Euconian stone with the ability to trap ambient energy or, if large enough, entire spirits. In this case, these Soul Crystals are specifically powering the Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary nodes at the operational end(s) of the device. While active, the Primary and Secondary nodes build energy in the space between them. New wielders of the Gelt-ji are warned to not touch this area, as this can deliver a nasty shock.
At the phase shown, the nodes have produced a complete energy sphere, ready to be fired. The nodes now use the energy from the Soul Crystals to lock the energy sphere in place in order to prevent it from detaching prematurely from the device. This is the “resting” phase for most active Gelt-ji.
When a Gelt-ji is being fired, the Tertiary node pulls energy from both Soul Crystals, which fires a pulse of kinetic energy into the sphere. The amount of kinetic energy applied is, in most Gelt-ji models, dependent on the user, and can determine the power and speed of a given blast. The more kinetic energy applied, the more power and speed the blast will have--but it will also have much more recoil.
Once enough kinetic energy is applied from the Tertiary node, the energy sphere will be forcefully ejected from the end of the device. The accuracy of such a shot is entirely dependent on how its wielder handles the recoil.
So, yeah. Pew pew.
