I love this photo of our Mother’s Day hike: My 75-year-old mother in law climbing out of a dry creek gully with walking sticks, up a very steep hill covered in unstable gravel and shale. She’s had knees worked on, and has back issues, yet she loves the outdoors. Behind her are her daughters, Sarah on the left and my wife Rebecca on the right, steadying her climb; making sure Sarah and Rebecca are stabilized is Sarah’s wife Melissa anchoring the rear. At the top of the hill, a teenage Selma awaits to give her grandma a helping hand. So my sister-in-law @sarahedouglas1976 can find a cave anywhere. This cave entrance was a barely visible black smudge behind trees that she saw from the dirt road. This cave would be a perfect shelter in an overnight, with sleeping shelves and easy access. People had been using this cave for a long time.
