Best seat in the house. I often ask myself, how did I get here? Sometimes when I stop and think, it kind of feels like a dream. It’s a gift for me to be able to be on the track and travel the world to photograph. These photos are from one of those moments. .. . 2019, Pre Classic warmup track in California. I got there early in the day, just to check it out. No one was there. So I had a little workout for myself. Sprints, a couple of laps, sit-ups, etc. After about an hour, a few athletes started showing up. I never want to disrupt a practice so I always tread lightly and access the situation before saying hello. Later towards the end of the afternoon, I saw the 2x Olympic Champion/ 10x World Champion from Jamaica, Shelly Ann Fraser Pryce, practicing starts with her coach at the other end of the track. I had never properly met her before. I wanted to introduce myself so I carefully walked over , feeling out the vibe. When I got close I said hello to her and her coach. To my surprise, when I said who I was, she looked up while a big smile and said “ I know you, you’re famous” We smiled and both laughed as I told her that she was the famous one. Her positive, humorous, happy personality along with her smile was perfect. She and her coach then allowed me to sit and observe and take a few photos. When she was done, we sat for a bit, while she was taking off her spikes, and we talked about non track stuff. Pryceless. This is one of the many moments that track and field has gifted to me over the years. 🙏 See you soon Shelly Ann. #pryceless . . .
