I read your post about the All Lives Matter thing, and I just wanted to say thank you for the information! Also, I think that the people who are protesting should at least be maybe 6 ft apart since the coronavirus is still going on and we need to social-distance, no? :/

But it’s difficult to maintain that when police come at you from both sides and force you into a pincer formation.Â
At the very least the protesters overwhelmingly have face masks on - and are TRYING to space out.

Speaking as an Oregonian:
Portland is doing just fine. Portland is more unified right now than I have ever known it to be about any subject besides "parking is the bane of civilization" and "organic produce holds the same level of importance in my life as my righteous pride in Voodoo Doughnuts."
Portland is not "on fire" or "full of rioters" by ANY stretch of the imagination. By day, Portland is a bustling city where people are living and doing business JUST FINE. By night, people are out demonstrating in the streets as an organized, unified force and pushing back federal forces that are BLATANTLY unconstitutional. There's nothing insane or disastrous going on, despite how news reports seem to only focus on the same 12 seconds of a small trashcan fire for days on end.
The citizens of Portland have always made a persistent and admirable support for public works and mutual aid in their communities (their public transport system, the many weekend farmers markets, countless public works projects and charitable/working foundations, etc.), and now that's out in FULL FORCE.
People absolutely recognize that things are tough, and they're successfully distributing food/water/tools/medical aid amongst themselves without a problem. Like, they're thriving. Don't let anybody convince you that Portland is:
A) A disaster area full of rioting and looting, and
B) Not chugging along and still remaining a perfectly functional place to live, with competent and compassionate citizens.
