De-aged Tony, a very sad steve, aunt peggy and cousin sharon, protective Rhodey AND found family Avengers anyone????đ
đŤ´â¨đŤ
It's five days after. After Steve has left to punch the fifteenth punching bag of the day. After Bucky has passed out on the couch, trying to keep the kid from figuring out too much. After Sam has draped a gentle, soft blanket over Bucky's chest, where a small child and a cat have taken respite. After Natasha has sung her lullaby, Sharon Carter comes in like a raging storm, eyes seeking answers and mind reeling from the whiplash.
She takes one look at the kid and exhales like she has been shouldering the weight of the sky.
"Can I take him," she asks Rhodey, her voice suddenly small. And Jim Rhodes lets her. When he's been so fierce in his protection. Standing, mountain tall between the seven year old and SHIELD and the press and Hydra.
He lets them go and Steve appears, disheveled, sweaty and eyes wide and red, like he had been cryingâmissing the only man who made him feel like he's made of flesh and not of ice.
"Whereâ"
"Peggy."
Steve sags, all the fight, the tension and the grief slipping away as he leans against the wall with his hand over his heart.
"I thought..."
"What? You thought I'd let her take him to SHIELD?" Rhodes shakes his head. "You thought the Carters would take Tony to SHIELD?"
Hours later, the avengers are all flocking the kitchen for dinner and a late ping from Jarvis. And the peaceâafter all the work and struggle they've put in keeping Tony safe and happy and unassuming of the grief beyond his yearsâthe peace they find in seeing an overly joyed Peggy Carter with her godson is all a soothing balm over the ache of missing their friend.
Bucky and Steve huddle close as the later breaks down, watching a Peggy who doesn't remember herself most days coddle a child who doesn't remember the life he has lived. It's an ache and a relief, seeing his own past and present collide. And for a minute, for a single minute he forgets he has been missing adult Tony, like something that fell out of his chest.
But then he remembers, and he's both sad and hopeful and curious when Thor tells them ", two more days and the curse resolves itself".

Prompt: Steve Rogers and who the world expects him to be as Captain America are very differentâŚ

Rhodey tosses the remote onto the couch and gets up. "You know what?"
The headlines of the latest 'Stark Scandal' run through his head on repeat.
"What?" Tony huffs, glaring.
"What you really need, Tony," he says, pointing at Tony, "...is more military in your life."
Tony rolls his eyes, "Oh, is that right?"
"Oh, that's right," Rhodey says, walking towards the door, leaving, "Show you how to be more disciplined. Half of this bullshit wouldn't even happen."
He lets the door slam behind him.
Rhodey worries for his friend.
Somedays, it feels like something drastic has to happen for Tony to realize he needs to course correct. Fast.
Captain America has returned.
It's hard to wrap his mind around. He had read comics about the guy. Watched the news reels. And now, he's here. Alive!
Like a childhood dream come true, he'll be able to actually meet Captain America.
Even better, it might even be the answer to his concerns.
Becoming Iron Man has helped Tony pull himself out of his downward spiral. But he needs a little more help. Someone to help set him on the right path.
Cap's a military man. He'll be able to help straighten Tony out. Keep him on track.
Rhodey smiles.
'Who'd you trust if not Captain America?'
There's been progress. But it's slow going. What's a Stark if not stubborn?
But the improvements have eased Rhodey's worries somewhat.
Tony's definitely been happier. He smiles more, like back when they first really became friends. It warms his heart to see.
He'd cut back on the parting to a huge degree, and according to JARVIS, the man had quit drinking.
Tony was even exercising, to his surprise. And eating better.
Things were on the up and up. Rhodey couldn't be happier. Or prouder.
Rhodey heads down the steps to Tony's workshop.
But freezes as he looks through the windows.
Captain America was perched on Tony's lap, pulling Tony in by his tie as Tony kissed him enthusiastically.
'âŚOkay,' he thinks, 'alright... we can work with this...'
Captain America rides a motorcycle out of a 47-story building, just three floors down from the roof. Crashing through the glass and soaring through the air. Driving the motorcycle through the cockpit of the HYDRA helicopter, managing to miss the spinning rotor blades, all while shooting.
The man pulls his shield free from the motorcycle as the helicopter quickly plummets from the ground and jumps. Jumps roughly 18 stories from the hard, super-solid, not at all soft, unyielding ground.
Free falling casually. Until Tony races over in the armor and catches him.
'He's not a bad influence,' Rhodey tells himself. 'He Can't be. He's Captain America. âŚMaybe this is just a taste of his own medicine.'
Rhodey rubs his eyes, willing the images from his mind as he runs.
But they won't go. Seared into his brain.
'Oh god!'
What was Tony even doing, spanking Captain America in the training room?
The fic Iâm trying to find is Peter based and he lived with Tony, Pepper, and Morgan. Tony is pretty evil in this and after Morgan gets hurt by Peter he uses this as an excuse to get rid of Peters powers with the help of Banner. Rhodey is very protective of Peter and finds him hurt and without his powers. He fights with Tony and ends up taking Peter home with him. I donât remember much else but thank you!
here you go!
To Bind and Protect by No_its_night_monkey
Peter finds himself living with the Stark family after everyone is unblipped. He doesn't like to talk about why. Spider-Man is on the backburner for now, which is really for the best. After everything that has happened, all Peter wants is to fit in with the family, to not be a burden or a problem. He wants to help Tony and Pepper, he wants to get along with Morgan. He wants something to show him that he was meant to come back and that he has a place in this five-years-later life. But when his best intentions have disastrous results, Peter finds himself willing to do just about anything to make up for what he's done.
What happens when the Stark family faces an unexpected and unprecedented threat: Peter Parker

I donât know if youâre interested in something like this, but: Tony and Bucky go to same university, they always âbullyâ (more like weirdly flirting while not being sure if the other one is flirting or serious) each other but Bucky doesnât realize what he says is too close to Howard and sometimes really hurts tony. At least until colonel Rhodes comes to the Uni and threatens him.
Thank you for this prompt, I enjoyed this <3
-
Itâs a bad day the moment Bucky steps foot out of his dorm. The sky overhead looks as cranky as he feels, and it isnât two blocks from his dorm that it begins to drizzle. His mother always did say he was stubborn, so itâs no surprise when he refuses to turn back, gritting his teeth and arriving at his 8AM late and soaking wet.Â
All that, and Tony Stark isnât even there. The empty seat in front of Bucky feels like a black hole, heavy, drawing everyoneâs gaze to it. Bucky felt liable to be sucked in any moment, and it would probably be a mercy. Tony Stark hasnât missed a day of classes everânot throughout his last two PhDs and certainly not now, he likes to brag. What are the odds that the class after he and Stark has a falling out that the kid would take sick?Â
Theyâd been sharing classes for two semesters. Bucky sitting in the back, arriving early so he can catch some sleep, coffee cooling by his lowered head. Tony slips through the door just as itâs closing, full of energy and smarm that makes Buckyâs eyes roll. When Bucky had finally gotten the nerves to approach the younger man, he already felt like he knew him. Everyone gets to know Tony Stark. Itâs hard to avoid him.Â
Standing at Starkâs library table as the kid looks up, one eyebrow quirked, Bucky canât deny how handsome he is. Thereâs a classic beauty in the symmetry of his face, in his large dark eyes and the tantalizing curve of his mouth.Â
Imagine Buckyâs surprise when he opens his own mouth gone is the smooth-talking man he believed himself to be and in his place is a sarcastic asshole dancing the line between cheeky and downright rude. Stark looks shell shocked for all of one second before heâs bitching right back at Bucky, and such was the beginning of their infamous rivalry. It made Bucky feel like a little boy pulling pigtails on the playground, but he couldnât help feeling like maybe Tony liked constantly bickering with him. Like maybe the insults and snark were verbal foreplay. Like maybe this wasnât just a one-sided obsession Bucky had for the genius.Â
Then where had it gone so wrong? During their mutual study group they had shared biting remarks like always (ignoring the pointed eye rolls of their friends around them) and then Stark had just shut down. Shut off. Closed his book and left them all with nothing more than the coolest, See you around.Â
Only Bucky didnât see him around, Tony didnât respond to any of his texts, and now thereâs an aching in his chest like a bruise that heâs just digging his fingers in.Â
And the bad day just gets worse when Bucky throws open the door to his dorm, flicks on the light and sees the stranger standing at the bulletin board above his dresser, looking through Buckyâs personal notes as if they are his own.Â
âWhat the fuckââ Bucky says, stepping back out into the hallway.Â
The man glances over with a flat, unamused expression. He is dark-skinned with his head shaved close to the skull, plenty of laugh lines though a mouth that seems better suited to frowning. Heâs dressed to the nines in a military uniform that makes Buckyâs spine straighten on instinct.Â
âI donât know who you are, but youâve got the wrong room, man,â Bucky says, heart in his throat.Â
âYouâre James Barnes. Iâm in the right room. Shut the door, will you? I donât need anyone knowing Iâm here.â
âNo offense, but Iâm not too eager to be alone with the guy who broke into my room. A locked door usually meansââ
âGet the hell in here before I have to expend any more energy on your sorry ass.â Seeing that this hasnât made Bucky any more eager to come in, he rolls his eyes and adds: âIâm a friend of Tony Starkâs.â
Buckyâs heart picks up as he comes in and shuts the door behind him. âIs he okay? He wasnât in class. Oh God, did he like, get hurt?â
âYeah he got hurt, you asshole. By you.â
Bucky gapes. âMe? I havenât seen him all weekend!â
The man scoffs. âI thought you were supposed to be smart. Listen once because Iâm not in the business of giving second warnings. Tony is tough, but heâs got thinner skin than youâd maybe think. Where the hell do you get off saying to him half the things you say? Calling him half the names you spit out?â
âWhoa, look, thatâs just how it is between us!â Bucky assures him. âThatâs how we talk to each other. He dishes it out just fine, trust me.â
âI know about Tonyâs mouth, you donât need to tell meâand from the way Tony made things sound, you two were one verbal spar from tying the knotâbut what I want to hear is how a guy so close to Tony could pull that shit you pulled on Friday knowing about his father and all the abuse Tony went through. I want to hear some justification.âÂ
Bucky gapes, struggling to unpack everything the other man had just dumped onto him. While it was good to know that there was some reciprocation of feelings and that Tony did enjoy the way they bickered, Bucky has never heard the other man mention his father. Bucky doesnât even know the guyâs name. His stomach churns at that term: abuse. Jesus, dads suck, he thinks, aching.Â
âI donât know anything about his family,â Bucky admits. âHe never talks about them. We havenât exactly gotten to know each other, I guess. Whatâwhat did I do? Did I say something?âÂ
ââCanât you do anything rightâ ringing any bells?âÂ
It does. Terrible, thunderous bells that echo off the inside of his skull. Bucky hadnât meant it that way, even if it was more biting than their usual jabs. Tony had spent the whole study session with his phone in his face, texting and grinning andâBucky had begun to wonder if maybe he wasnât texting somebody. Maybe some girl or some guy back home. When someone had asked for Tonyâs answer to a problem and he rattled off the wrong answer, it had just slipped from Buckyâs mouth: Wrong. Jesus, Tony, canât you do anything right?
âThereâs the epiphany,â the man says, pointing at Buckyâs stricken face. âAnd here comes my final threat. I had to catch a flight with little-to-no notice from a place Iâm not allowed to mention the name of to civilians because you fucked up with Tony. Fix this. Treat him with more respect in the future, and do not forget: this was me being nice. Got it, kid?âÂ
âYes,â Bucky says, just barely managing to bite off the sir. The man has a hand on the doorknob of Buckyâs room before he thinks to call out to him and ask: âHey, you never told me your name?âÂ
âTell Tony that Sourpatch made a house call,â he says, rolling his dark eyes and leaving Bucky alone with his thoughts.Â
Before he can stop himself, he fishes his phone out of his damp jeans.
I donât think youâve ever done a thing wrong in your life, Bucky texts on a whim, heart pounding at the riskiness of laying it all on the line. Wouldnât even be wrong of you to tell me to go to hell, since Iâd like to ask you to dinner
This is an automated message. Text STOP if youâre going to stop being such a fucking assholeÂ

Summary: Jim Rhodes isn't sure how he feels about having the Stark heir for his roommate, right up until he meets Tony and finds he's the very last thing he expected.
Word Count: 2340
(Also written for the prompts Drama, Overprotective, and âI dare youâ for @rhodeyappreciationweek)
It started on May 2, when Jimâs sister shrieking from the family room had brought him running. âHoly crap, Jimmy,â she had whispered, since their parents werenât around to read her the riot act over her language. She had gestured wildly at the television. âYouâre gonna go to school with the Stark heir!â
Jim had just rolled his eyes, once he had ascertained that there was no actual emergency. âYeah, me and about ten thousand other people. Iâm never even gonna see him, twerp, let alone meet him. And isnât he like twelve anyway?âÂ
âFifteen,â sheâd interjected, all heart eyes, and that explained a lot.Â
âRight, well, weâre hardly gonna become best buds so you can quit acting like heâs coming home for Thanksgiving.âÂ
But then his Residence Life Package had arrived, and stuffed into the back of the packet like an afterthought was an extra memo, getting into very detailed specifics about extra security and proprietary rights and privacy in dorm life. And a few weeks after that was the mysterious, free upgrade to a nicer building -- the building that had, in fact, just been slotted for a full remodel and update over the summer, including a top of the line student lounge. Nobody came right out and said it, but Jim knew his luck, and by the time August rolled around, he was pretty sure that Anthony Stark was going to be his roommate.Â
*
Moving in was even more chaotic and crazy than Jim had expected, what seemed like thousands of freshmen with their families and all their stuff milling around, waiting for their turn to check in and get their room assignment and their keys. And while they were waiting, he couldnât help watching all the other kids, wondering which one was his future roommate.Â
Heâd tried looking up Anthony Stark as his suspicions had grown over the past few months, but while thereâd been a lot of mentions of him, the Starks had done a good job of keeping his picture out of the papers. The most recent picture Jim had been able to find was when Anthony had built his first circuit board. At the age of three. Because of course he had.Â
So Jim had no idea who he was looking for, which meant that almost every person he saw had the potential of being him. For the millionth time, he let his gaze drift over the quad. There was a guy over in the north-east corner, trying to chat up some girl, who had actual movers there, like eight of them, lined up and waiting to shift all his stuff. And there was --Â
Jim winced as somebody moved away and he spotted a guy that he hadnât noticed before. He was standing all alone beside a sad little pile of boxes, clutching the handle of a suitcase just a little too tight. He kept switching between looking around with quick, furtive glances, and then staring down at the ground, messy hair falling in front of his face, which was barely visible anyway beneath huge glasses. He had his back pressed up tight against the wall, like he was doing his best to make himself invisible. He looked young, too, and for a brief moment Jim thought that maybe⌠But no, that didnât make any sense. The Starks were one of the richest families in America, and heâd read that the baby Stark was already being groomed to be the innovative future of Stark Industries. Of course they wouldnât just leave him there like that.
He kept looking around, had his guess narrowed down to the guy with the movers and another guy who was simpering as his mother obviously fawned all over him. Neither one of them looked like someone heâd particularly want to be a roommate with, but he couldnât find it in himself to worry about it. His gaze kept going back to the kid by the wall. Most of the other freshmen were happy, maybe a little nervous, but even the ones who were crying over leaving their families looked excited too. This kid though, looked absolutely terrified, and while he wasnât crying, he had this quiet sort of sadness about him. His fingers were tapping out an uneven, nervous pattern against his thigh, and Jim felt something twist in his stomach. Heâd just about decided to go over and introduce himself, because if anyone needed a friend it was this guy, but then he got distracted by some pointless argument with his sister, and when he looked back over again, the guy was gone, leaving a wake of guilt in Jimâs stomach.Â
*
As it turned out, admissions had fucked something up with their check-in system, and so they were hours behind schedule. Rather than waiting in the hot crowd of people, the Rhodes family had elected to grab some lunch in a nice, air conditioned restaurant, and come back when the line had died down a bit. When they made it back to campus, his mother sent Jim up ahead to his room while the rest of the family started unpacking the car. He was hesitating outside the door, double checking the room number against the one scribbled on his sheet of paper, when he heard voices inside.Â
âDad, come on! Canât you guys stay a little longer? At least until I finish unpacking?âÂ
The voice wasnât whiny, or the usual irritated tone that Jim might have expected from a teenager arguing with his parents. Instead he just sounded sad, and so, so disappointed.Â
âAnthony, enough!â an older male voice snapped back. âI thought you agreed you werenât going to cause any drama today.âÂ
âIâm not,â Anthony said quickly, voice carefully neutral. âI just⌠I thought you guys would at least stay until I unpacked, and maybe we could get dinner or something before you go.âÂ
âWell, weâre not.âÂ
âThatâs what all the other kids are doing.âÂ
It sounded like a last-ditch effort, and Jim could hear Howard Starkâs answering snort as clearly as if heâd been standing beside him.Â
ââWhat all the other kids are doing?ââ he repeated. âAnd tell me, are you âjust likeâ all the other kids?âÂ
âNo.â The answer was soft, quiet, and just a little resentful.Â
âHowardâŚâ That was from a quiet female voice, who Jim assumed was Anthonyâs mother. There was a hint of warning in it, but Howard didnât seem inclined to listen.Â
âThatâs right, youâre not. Youâre a goddamn Stark, and itâs time to grow up and act like it. So no, Mommy and Daddy arenât going to hold your hand through university. Stop crying about it.âÂ
Jim winced, feeling a little sick at the derision in his voice. This man was talking to his own son, his only child, and he sounded like he was completely disgusted by him. Jim had gotten in some pretty big arguments with his parents before, but he couldnât imagine either of them talking to him with that cold indifference in their voices, no matter how angry they were with him. And worse, he couldnât even figure out what Howard Stark really had to be angry about. His son wanted to have dinner with his parents, when he probably wouldnât even see them again before Thankgiving? What was wrong with this man?Â
âIâm not crying,â Anthony protested, but even Jim could hear the waver in his voice. âI just⌠Itâs the first day of university, Dad, and Iâm younger than everyone here, and itâs⌠Itâs supposed to be a big deal. I thought youâd stay a bit, is all.âÂ
âJesus Christ,â Howard bit out, earning another reproachful murmur from his wife. âYou know we only brought you up ourselves because it coincided with my meeting with Dr. Franklin. Grow up, Anthony. You may be younger than everyone else, but youâre still old enough to leave home. And if youâre old enough to go to university, youâre old enough to be a goddamn man about it.âÂ
âI didnât even want to go to university yet! I wanted to wait until I was the same age as everyone else. Youâre the one who insisted I start now, just because of the stupid Stark legacy and because of how good it would look for the stupid investors.âÂ
âWhat did you just say to me?âÂ
Howardâs voice had gone icy cold, and Jim felt unease ripple through him.Â
âHoward, thatâs enough,â his wife insisted, but he wasnât listening.Â
âNo. What did you just say? Come on, son, say it again. I dare you.âÂ
Jim had never met Anthony Stark, but he felt a sudden wave of overprotectiveness toward him. Before he could think the better of it, he was shoving the door open, walking in with his box in hand like heâd just arrived.Â
âOh, hey!â he said, feigning surprise at the sight of the people in the room. He wasnât exactly surprised to find that Anthony Stark was the kid heâd spotted earlier on the quad, but it somehow made his whole exchange with his father that much sadder, knowing how alone heâd been out there, surrounded by all those people with their families. He gave him a bright smile, pretending not to notice the red tinge across the tops of Anthonyâs cheeks, or the way he gave a hasy swipe at his eyes. âIâm Jim Rhodes. I guess Iâm your roommate!âÂ
For a moment, there was a long, slightly awkward silence, and Jim could tell that they were trying to work out if heâd heard anything. He didnât let his smile falter, setting his box down on the empty bed. Without a word, Howard and his wife moved into action, saying good-bye to their son and preparing to leave. Jim kept half an eye on them as he unpacked his toiletries from the box and lined them up on his night table, watching Maria wrap an arm around Tony and place a gentle kiss on his cheek before Howard came over to shake his hand, the gesture cold and indifferent.
He didnât hear what, if anything, they said to him as he left, but then they were gone. Anthony sank onto his bed in their absence in a way that was both disappointed and relieved. He seemed to have forgotten that he wasnât alone in the room, and Jim found himself clearing his throat a little awkwardly.Â
âUh. You must be Anthony, huh?â he asked, offering out his hand. Anthony looked up at Jim with sharp eyes, and he could see the intelligence there. Somehow, for all he still felt sorry for him, he knew better than to think he was naive.Â
âTony,â he offered, taking Jimâs hand after a beat. âNo one calls me Anthony.â He met Jimâs gaze. âMy dad only does it when heâs showing off, or pissed at me. Or both.âÂ
It was said easily, like it was just an absolute fact that Jim had overheard Howard using the name, like that kind of exchange was normal, and Jim winced. Now that the immediate threat was gone, he wasn't quite sure what to do with himself, what to say besides âsorry about your familyâ which seemed inappropriate, if fitting. But Tony seemed to have that covered too.Â
âStrawberry?â he offered, out of the blue, and Jim blinked as he was met with a glass bowl full of fresh, plump strawberries.Â
âUhhâŚâÂ
Tony gave him a shy, sweet little smile, at odds with the resigned look heâd been wearing before. âJarvis, our butler?â He made a face, like he knew how that sounded, and then waved it off. âHe snuck them in for me. He knows theyâre my favourite.â He shook the jar a little, looking hopeful. It felt like a lot more than a strawberry, Tony so easily sharing the one small bit of joy in what seemed to have been an absolutely shitty day, and Jim didnât know what heâd been expecting from the Stark heir, but it sure wasnât this. He took one, popping it in his mouth and Tony beamed at him, looking absolutely delighted that his little gift had been accepted. Jim felt himself getting pulled into the force of that smile. He was pretty sure Tony Stark was going to be the end of him, and he was pretty sure he was going to love every minute of the ride.Â
âListen,â he said quickly, taking a seat beside Tony. âMy familyâs gonna be here any second, and I feel like I should apologize in advance, because they can kind of be a lot. They mean well, I promise.âÂ
Tony offered up another shy little smile. âYou donât have to apologize for that,â he told him, a wistful note in his voice. âIt sounds⌠Nice.âÂ
âYeah, it kind of is,â Jim admitted. âBut youâll find out soon enough. My momma kinda tends to adopt people, and sheâs gonna be ready to trade me for you in about five seconds.âÂ
Tony gave a little giggle at that, ducking his head, and Jim had to resist the sudden urge to coo because good lord, he was adorable. He felt another surge of anger toward his terrible family; someone thi sweet didnât deserve that kind of bullshit.
âAnyway, theyâre planning to drive back to Philly tonight, and my dadâs already getting antsy about how behind schedule they are, so they probably wonât stay too long once they get me settled. You wanna grab some dinner after theyâre gone? Maybe wander around and try to figure out this campus?âÂ
âReally?â Tony looked heartbreakingly startled. âYou want to have dinner with me?âÂ
Jim nudged against his shoulder. âYou seeing a whole lotta other roommates in this room that Iâd be grabbing dinner with?âÂ
Tony snorted, but there was a flush spreading across the tops of his cheeks, a goofy little grin twitching at his lips. âYeah,â he said softly, half to the bedspread, half glancing shyly up at Jim. âIâd like that a lot. That sounds like a great way to end the day.âÂ
