I’m sure the fandom already went over all this ages ago but I keep thinking about why they buried Qifrey.

Knowing what we know about the Silverwood and how it propagates, they sure didn’t have to plant him for it to sprout— and they wouldn’t just be trying to grow a tree anyway, they were in the forest of Thristas, full of Silverwood trees (which may all be in the sickly state that makes them produce the most ink, anyway)

So there’s two possibilities I see.

One is that they were trying to find out what happens when a Silverwood host dies without being in comfort. Would it sprout or not? Pure scientific inquiry.

The other is that they were trying to turbocharge its ability to heal and shore up its host. By having Qifrey slowly suffocate and/or drown, the Silverwood would take over more and more of his body trying to make him able to escape to safety.

What if they were trying to make a boy entirely out of wood?

I’m loving the anime a lot but I miss this exchange, because it hit me super hard reading it the first time. As someone who grew up in an intense academic environment, the fact that it’s almost unthinkable to Agott that Coco isn’t terrified of failure just… it’s relatable as well as a really nice indication of her character and history. Idk. I love this kid.
