From the diaries of Krona, now in the possession of the Green Lantern Corps and held in a secure vault in the Library of Oa. Translated from the original Maltusian into English by the ring of Green Lantern 2814.1.
At long last, I have done it. I have come infinitesimally close to achieving my life’s dream - learning what there was before. Before the universe of matter we all know, before flesh and blood and life and the stars themselves. It is common knowledge that the world began with a “big bang.” All the matter that ever was and ever will be sprang into existence at once. But who caused that act of creation? Who has that fantastic power? And moreover, can one come to possess this power themselves?
For long, I have sought answers, and now, I am on the brink of obtaining them. Approximately three cycles ago, I took a craft to the edge of known space, outfitted with sufficient enough weaponry to pierce the impenetrable field of energy surrounding the universe. Energy equivalent to that of a thousand suns poured out onto the barrier, and afforded me a chance to see outside of it for a few brief, fleeting seconds before the greater forces outside of our universe cast me back and the barrier sealed itself shut.
Looking outside was like getting a glimpse of the beginning of time. On the other side of the energy barrier, there was nothing - save for a large figure with pink skin, dressed in robes and appearing to monitor the universe from outside from a small research station, not unlike my own. Beneath the universe, there was what appeared to be a giant hand, holding it firmly within its grasp. Could this be the hand of the universe’s creator, the one who caused the Big Bang? I find the theory both intriguing and plausible.
But even more intriguing is the possibility of travel outside of this universe. What could lie beyond that barrier, that monitoring station? A sea of endless nothingness, or perhaps more universes? The thought of being able to witness the creation of a universe, or even create one of my own, is entirely too tempting. Further research into piercing the barrier may be necessary if I truly wish to know how the universe was formed.
