There was no such thing as living without... as she had put it, sin. The concept itself was odd to Elgar'nan whose spirit had never truly known the edge that many of his kind would have clung to. Virtues were useful, good to have, but to allow yourself be limited by it was a waste. As the first, he had been the one to understand that: the only meaningful step that the could take was to be beyond form.

Instead of weaving themselves in emotions and the thin lines of magic, they should swathe themselves in bloody flesh and dust-filled bone. The first time Elgar'nan had felt the sharp edge of a blade on his body it was the first time he had realised what it truly meant to be alive, to have a life worth living.

He knew that was highly unpopular, though perhaps not with the denizens of this age. Elgar'nan's eyes land on her for a second, attempting to gauge at the reaction before continuing the thought. Falon'din and Dirthman in particular had seemed absolute in their wants to separate traits into the thinnest threads so they could pull and push as they had seen fit. As Andruil and Ghil'a'nain had seen their interest grow in how to change the physical being of flesh: what it had meant to walk these lands.

They had focused on what it meant to be of spirit and how thinly one could cut until they became something different. Both topics Elg'arnan could understand the interest, even if he himself found it dreadfully dull. It was good to surround yourself by those that had varied interests beyond your own: it was easier to keep an eye on them and easier to strike if it were necessary.

He could have almost heard their scoffing at his words. The arrogance of children who thought they knew better than their parents. While Dirthamen played at blood magic, he forgot that it was that very act of spilling blood that sprung so much to life.
