Why? Because the dramatic doctor references ‘smoky tea’ which is how exactly how Asra’s favorite tea, Lapsang, tastes. Because the leaves are smoked to dry them, specifically over pine. The story goes that because of armies going through the region, there wasn’t enough time to dry the tea leaves properly and so they attempted to speed the process over fires which is what gives Lapsang it’s distinctive smoke flavor. In China it’s mostly thought of as foreigner tea because it was a way more popular blend in Europe, which meant for a long time most of the Lapsang produced was for export. It is also the favorite tea of Hercule Poirot and yours truly.
