Project Shred
So I started this thing that I'm naming project shred(because why not) where my goal isn't necessarily to drop pounds but rather my body fat percentage(BF%). Now in the process I will drop some net weight but how ever little or much that is doesn't matter. The reason I want to focus on my BF% is because I also want to keep whatever strength I have. If I just wanted to cut pounds I would do 3 hours of cardio a day and burn both fat and muscle. So mid 2012 i have no idea how much I weighed or what my BF% was. I went into college weighing 240 lbs, and I stopped weighing myself at 270 lbs(so much for it only being the freshman 15, right). I'm going to speculate My BF% was somewhere between 30-35, maybe even 40. That was my freshman year of college. I started my gym journey at the beginning of 2013. The original focus to be get a six pack by 2014 but that quickly changed to lifting the heaviest weight possible. January 2013 i benched 200 pounds, squat maybe 225. By december I had hit 300 and squat 315 for multiple reps. Great progress yeah? Gets better. June this year I hit 345 on bench and squat at least 365, my knee gives me trouble so I don't go all in on squat. I weighed 265 but BF% was somewhere around 22%. The progress I've made since January 2013 has been unbelieveable and I can say, with exception to 6 year old Kyle, June 2014 I was in the best shape of my life. Well, also in june 2014 I got a new job. And about midway through june all the way to midway through september I had no free time. Not even for my precious gym. For three months I worked out maybe 10 times. I dropped from 265 to 245 lbs and BF% to 23.5%. Bench from 345 to maybe 300 right now. Don't even ask about squat. That brings me to the beginning of project shred. About 2 weeks ago was the start. My schedule regulated and I am consistent again in the gym. My goal is 10% BF and whatever the pounds are is okay with me. As long as I keep most of my strength. I started at 245 lbs, 23.5% BF and since then I've wavered from 245 to 253 all the way to 244 and this morning 246. It's been rocky already and I got sick right at the start. But, today I am 246 lbs strong and yesterday crossed the threshold to below 23% BF. I'll be posting progress as i go, and I'm excited to see where I can get to by the end of 2014. If anyone has any tips on cutting/shredding/dropping fat while maintaining muscle mass and strength they would be gladly appreciated. If anyone even reads all this. It's more for me anyway, a log of my progress if you will. Live to Lift, and Lift to Live.
Day one of project shred was yesterday. Starting weight was 253 with 23.5% body fat Day two: this morning started at 249 lbs.
