The search for the office

For a while, we had worked at home, but a few months ago, after adding Edward to our team, we decided to move into an office. We wanted this to be an open space, with various, interesting start-ups and companies located there. In New York, there are a lot of these places, but we identified only 10 that were worthy of our attention. At first, we thought to seek an office in Brooklyn, close to home, but eventually continued our search in Manhattan. (We will tell you more about this in a future post.)

We finally chose Projective Space in the Lower East Side located at Allen and Grand Streets. Projective Space often hosts various events dedicated to IT, where famous start-ups and companies take part. This is great and allows us to easily meet new interesting people!

Allen Street is in Lower Manhattan bordering Chinatown. The street is named after captain William Henry Allen, who commanded a Navy ship in the 1812 war. Here, the Williamsburg Bridge joins Manhattan to the Williamsburg borough in Brooklyn, where Edward lives.

Stylitics - presented by CEO and Co-Founder, Rohan Deuskar

Founded in January 2011, Stylitics was created to be the 'Bloomberg of Fashion'. Their service offers a utility and resource for consumers, 'an intelligent extension of a user's actual wardrobe.' Their clients and partners include, Tory Burch, BBDO and the CFDA; their ambassador program is utilized in over 50 campuses; and they aim to be the world's largest social closet platform. Also announced: the launch of additional social features and shoppable closets!

Merocrat - presented by CEO and Co-Founder, Viktoria Ruubel

Merocrat aims to facilitate trust between creative talent and clients, enforce transparency and solve the fashion industry's biggest problems. The site is a safe platform for fashion creatives to collaborate and transact. Features include: posting profiles and projects, networking with professionals, applying to gigs and initiating collaborations. Their vision is clearly global - Merocrat currently has offices in NYC, Tallinn and London.

Bib+Tuck - presented by Co-Founder, Sari Azout

Bib+Tuck is an invite-only community that offers shopping without spending. They're rebranding the clothing swap into a chic social experience. Azout discussed the company's focus beyond the transaction, to create a club (not a marketplace), of curated commerce. What's with the name? Bib is to share and Tuck is to take. The concept is clearly catching on––their current wait list is 5,000 people! Little Black Bag - presented by President and Co-Founder, David Weissman

LBB was inspired by the Japanese tradition 'Fukubukuru' (translation: Lucky Bag), an event where hoards of fashionable girls buy a mystery bag of seasonal items, and trade the item's contents amongst friends until they're satisfied. LBB is the first to bring the 'Lucky Bag' concept online and to the US. Over 165 brands are available on the site, including Badgley Mischka, BCBG and Kenneth Jay Lane. The company just closed their Series B investment in August at $8 million!

Go Try It On - presented by VP of Strategic Marketing, Amanda Hunter 

Did you know women spend an average of 90 minutes getting ready to go out? GTIO seeks to answer the age old question, 'what should I wear' and take the best of social fashion, mix it with the best of of mobile commerce, to deliver on the promise of social retailing. When asked what differentiates their business from the app Pose, Hunter stressed the importance of making social networking actionable for their users. One of our favorites of this company: their sleek redesign and ultra-cool photo shoot features.
