I remember seeing someone comment that Tails' ability to keep up with Sonic was the foundation of their friendship in the first place. (Different continuity, yeah, but by the third movie, Tails shouldn't already feel like his presence is shrinking considerably. And he's a main character.)

Considering the movie had already come out (& I haven't seen it yet) I'll refrain from commenting on what's happening in it for now

But whoever said that about S&T's friendship I totally agree. Sonic wasn't initially interested in Tails (according to the Sonic 2 manual), he just let him follow him, he didn't really care. They had only become friends after going through the whole adventure together (That's why I said that one time that the first movie should have been about Sonic & Tails instead of Sonic & Tom hahaha)

That's why Tails (imo) is Sonic's first long-term friend. Sonic sucks at commitment. (Obviously Sonic is very friendly but he doesn't really keep in touch. That's why I'm specifying the pong term part) Only someone who themself was willing to commit to the same lifestyle as him (even if for a time, eventually Tails ended up settling down & getting a bunch of labs, but by that time they'd already bonded enough) could actually get through to him.

If Tails didn't have the ability to follow Sonic, he would have most likely been just one of the many people Sonic helps on the daily. There's a good chance they would have never met again.

Additionally, that's why when they were coming up with a love interest for Sonic they made a girl who would chase him down herself. Because Sonic is not gonna come back for you. He's not gonna bring you flowers while you sit on your ass. He's just gonna go on living his life and if you wanna be in that life you need to put in the work.

I haven't seen that show in forever (I'll put this post in the tag maybe someone would care to elaborate on this point or correct me), but iirc the whole premise of the show was that Jimmy was having regular kid problems and was just resolving them with weird inventions & stuff. But because he's a kid he overlooks something obvious & then cartoon shenanigans happen.

Like I'm reading the plot of the first ep. on wikipedia & it's just "Jimmy's mom tells him to clean his room, he doesn't want to & invents a thing to do it for him. The invention goes wrong. Lesson: you should clean your room & not try to push your chores on someone else".

I think when people "compare" them, they're actually thinking of the salt meme. Which is less about Jimmy as a character & is more to say "They make Tails speak in an annoying way where he uses completely unnecessary big words to show that he's "smart", instead of having him do something actually smart". But I think the bigger issue is that they don't let him do anything.

(And tbh this manner of speaking could also be used to showcase its own sort of childishness (which is probably what's happening to Jimmy there? maybe?). But ig if the real problem is that people find it annoying, you can't really rationalize it)
