I’m gonna have to downgrade my dragon to just a head with armsleeve. In my enthusiasm I made the tail and body too big, and I don’t have a good way to carry it around (plus it would just get too heavy and hot)
The plus side is that I’ll be able to spend more time on decorating and that it’ll be easier to transport and put on, so that’s good. Also, have a picture of the massive thing:
I burned myself on hot glue 5 times, lost my scissors, and I can’t feel my left thumb anymore
But the blinking mechanism om my dragon puppet is working!
Finally a newer puppet done. (via Mandy the Pink Monster « Holosite)
Puppet Resources
These were helpful to me when making puppets, if anyone else is interested here's some resources. Hope they help!
Adam Kreutinger's video on making a puppet head: http://youtu.be/l4jqGph9E2k . First video I saw on puppet making and incredibly helpful. There's meant to be a follow-up video explaining how to make the puppet body, but alas, there is no vid yet. Here's his other websites too for your perusal: http://www.adam.kreutinger.com/ and http://adamkreutinger.blogspot.ie/
Project Puppet: http://www.projectpuppet.com/ A website chock-full of professional-style puppet patterns for sale. Puppeteers Unite created a video series on how these are built. Available here: http://puppeteersunite.com/?page_id=588
There's also this half-hour youtube vid by PhilipStephens007 explaining how to make a muppet-style puppet: http://youtu.be/dbQnuAOlGwc . He also included patterns available to download which is a great help.

PROJECT PUPPET
A photo-manipulation project bringing together artistic graphic designers and photographers. The theme of the project emphasizes on the fact that the art world has various ways to create wonderful things soothing to the sight and mind.
In the project, the creative team works with the model/actresses to create human puppets on strings (literary). Make-up in pre-production and post-production is aimed at attaining a doll-like puppet or mannequin.
Models used will be known-faces also promoting the cause of the creative art. Other people will be invited to join project as time goes on
Foam and puppet patterns purchased
Ready to design and make my own puppet with my partner in crime and twin Lotte.
I'm really excited as i'll be able to put in the skills i've learnt and witnessed in the company. The patterns are so easy to get as you pay for them and then straight away you can download them. It's great as once you've got the pattern you can print them out as much as you want.
Making my own puppets is such a good thing to start doing as it will make me used to having my own skills and development as a puppeteer. With making my own puppets i can explore that puppet and puppeteer relationship.
Welcome to Project Puppet's sixth annual puppet contest! This year's theme is The Time Machine.
The startled Doctor opened his eyes to find a jigging-jogging, chugging-lugging, smoking-choking, fired-up and raring-to-go, topsy-turvy Time Machine...gone BERSERK! And, there was nothing that poor Doctor Minit could do...but sit and watch, mouth agape in astonishment, as a host of characters from the years 1850-1900 were transported through time, one after the other, to his small laboratory.
Your job? Show us the characters Doctor Minit's Time Machine brought back! It can be any man, woman, animal, or thing from 1850-1900 as long as it's based on a Simple Series puppet pattern from Project Puppet. Do your research…and get started!
I first read this and immediately thought about making a Madame Vastra puppet. What, she's from 1888! At least, that's when the Doctor found her and Jenny. :P
Anyway, I read further on the rules and only original characters will be accepted for the contest. Oh well. I mean it's not like I'm very skilled craft-wise anyway, but determination has always counted for a lot with me. I don't know, really. Hrm...
