Welcome to the 7 Sided Dev Blog, the developer blog for 7 Sided Dice Studios. My name is Justin Jefferson. I am your developer, designer, musician, and artist. A one man band some say. This is my first true attempt becoming an indie game developer. I’ve been playing music and making art for years, but coding has been a new step for me.
Over the past year and a half, I’ve been dabbling with Gamemaker Studio, which is great if you’ve never messed around with computer coding before. It’s fairly straight forward and there are many great people who have tutorials to explain what you don’t know. In that time frame, I made a couple prototypes: a one battle turn-based RPG, Megaman-like platformer, and a bunch of other things that never came to fruition. None of these have become full games, but I would like to change that.

In the last month, I worked on a prototype for my most recent project, Project: Libra. How I see Project: Libra as an Action-Adventure game with randomized dungeons and a home base which you can level up. The prototype features the idea for the game-loop of traversing a dungeon and going back to a home location. You can play it on Steam Workshop or download it here.
My plan, at the moment, is to work out a game design document (GDD) to fully flesh out my idea. During the development of this, prototype my idea changed a lot. Originally I was thinking of doing something more mechanical based, but through playing other games, I realized that I wanted something more narrative. Slowly, but surely my mind has been developing a rich vibrant world. That is what I want to create. A GDD is the best way to do that.
