A quick pimped Polar Magnus style saltwater fly on a #2 Mustad CS52SNP hook. I used the marabou found on soft patches as tail, and a full feather for the body hackle. The first 2/3 of the body is wrapped with Mylar mirage tinsel, and the last 1/3 white pearl Angelhair cut, spun in a loop a S brushed up before hackling. Finished off with a pink soft patch feather, and a 4mm Softhead. The "Micro Squid" is new experimental fly on my behalf. The design base and starting point is to design a hard core fishing fly with minimum air resistance for maximum casting distance, and a distinctively jiggly action, and extreme durability. The hook is a short shanked Owner carp hook with a deep bend to make the fly track right in the water. "Arms" is made from rubber legs, Marblefox and a white soft hackle. The eyemount is a 4mm Pro Softhead 4mm with Pro Cooleyes Orange to stand out from the bright white overall impression. The main body is white sock wool with Pro Flexiskin clear to add graphics. All the body is encapsulated in Loon UV Live. A set of 8cm easy to tie tube baitfish flies to cover most situation. All tied at the Micro tube which with the silicone hookguide is perfect for this simple style of flies where I want to control the direction of the hook, in this case a double hook pointed upwards to decrease the chance of snagging. A big 13 cm/5 in. Tubefly baitfish for saltwater fishing. In a attempt to make a extremely durable SW fly I tied this on the ultra durable 4,8mm Pro Predator tube. The back of the tube is heat formed on the tying needle to accept the massive 6/0 Owner Aki hook with ease. The body is made from SF fibers and cut to shape. 90 percent of the material is tied in on the top to make the fly track well even if the hook is pointed upwards, for weed protection etc. To finish the fly and protect the vitals I finished it if with a Pro Softhead 10mm black, and put a set of cool eyes Orange In there.
