Rain Pt1
It had been an awful day, but you refused to let it get to you. You were strong, you had fought back the unrelenting tears. You were wise, you didn’t react out of anger and did what you could to stay level headed. And most of all, you were...hurt. People sucked, and it always seemed to get to you.
You were trying to shake away the bad thoughts as you headed home. You had hoped you could make it there before the downpour started, but this was another area where luck was just not in the cards for you today. The rain was immediate, and hard. Of course you also forgot your umbrella in the office. You cursed to yourself as you put your laptop bag over your head and sprinted down the sidewalk, across the road. The sidewalk was empty, you were the only person foolish enough to be out in such weather.
In a moment, you saw bright lights flash to your left. Before you could stop yourself, the blaring of a horn and tires screeching flooded your ears. Your breath caught in your throat, and you froze realizing the danger you were now in as a car tried to stop before making what would be an inevitably painful impact.
This was it.
What a fitting way to end an awful day.
Suddenly you felt something grip your shoulder, yanking you away with milliseconds to spare. You fell into whatever, or whoever it was, onto the ground as the rain danced around you.
“Miss, miss--are you alright??” A loud voice frantically asked, pulling you into a seated position. You immediately wrapped your arms around yourself as your body shook. You felt sick, and your stomach was heavy. The car had sped away.
“I-I don’t know.” you said shakily, looking up at your silver haired savior.
He quickly looked you over, and you watched him speechlessly as he checked you for injuries. “What were you thinking, running into the street like that!” he scolded, “Did you want to be killed?!”
Your eyes welled up with tears, “I..I don’t know.” you put your head down, covering your face with your hands and sobbing softly.Â
You were clearly in shock, and he couldn’t help but sigh softly, "There there, now. You will be fine, I promise.” he patted your shoulder comfortingly, “Do you live nearby? I can escort you home.”
You didn’t respond, it was to difficult to stop yourself from crying. You were overwhelmed by the flood of emotions from the day. And now, brushing so close with death had left you feeling helpless and disoriented. So much for being strong.
“Miss...” the man’s voice was gentle, “Let’s get you out of the rain. I am staying nearby. You can rest, and then we can get you home.”
You nodded weakly, wiping the mixture of rain and tears out of your eyes as he retrieved his discarded umbrella. He returned quickly, extending his hand and covering you from the rain as best he could.
“My name is Reinhardt.” His smile was warm and inviting, “It’s a pleasure to meet you.”
He towered above you and you couldn’t help but stare for a moment. You placed your much smaller hand in his as he hoisted you up. “Thank you...”
"Good. Now let’s get you out of this rain.” his blue eye seemed to twinkle as you followed him obediently down the sidewalk.
