The gouges had yet to close, angry maws dug into flesh, leaving ruin in the wake of where blades had dug in deep. Those slices had been there to steal, to take away life from him and beyond everything that had transpired, Isaac had wished upon all things that it had done just that. It had been his life that’d been for the taken, he was the one that should have fallen because what did he have to lose? Nothing really, nothing compared to the life that Allison had had. She had a father, friends, she had a future to live but she had chosen to give all of that for the sake of saving his life, if he could even call it that. Because of him, his weakness Lydia had lost a best friend and Chris had lost a daughter, and even if he didn’t want to admit it, Scott had lost his first love.
“It should have been me,” Isaac whispered quietly as he shuffled down against the gravel, one of those large hands digging into the rocks and loose soil beneath. The night was quiet, even the trees lining the edges of the road had been still save for that soft glisten of winds through the barren branches. But he welcomed that silence, it was so wonderful in comparison to the loud echoes still heavy in the reaches of his mind. There had yet to be a moment where the fight had dulled in his memory and he had a feeling that if he let it, it never would. And if anything, he would deserve that. He would. But there were others that deserved better and he was going to do right by that. For once in his god forsaken life he was going to do something right.
Carefully he lowered the box into the dirt, swiping his palm over the gravel and smoothed it out, ensured it was entirely covered. Distantly he wondered just how long it’d take for them to show up.
”A werewolf? Well this is a first for me.”
The Beta rose up from his crouch, the gauzy color of his blue met with the pointed stare of red from the creature standing in the center of the crossroads. His fingers shifted over his thighs, scraping blunt nails against the denim there and he breathed out a little shaky.
”Tell me, pup. What are you here for? What sort of deal are you looking for?”
Isaac spoke quickly, there wasn’t hesitation there though there was a show of fear in the way that he held himself. But for once he was unwavering in his decision. There would be an exchange here. A life for a life. The woman before him crooned softly at him, impressed by his bravado to seek out the aid of a demon to bring back a lost love. But she was eager to make the deal, a soft body like his would do good in the depths of hell. With a kiss the deal was struck, sealed and delivered. The demon smiled wickedly back at Isaac as the darkness began to seep into the edges of his gaze. “A life for a life, yours for hers. Don’t worry pup, you won’t feel a thing.”
And he fell but he didn’t feel anything beyond the chill that soaked into his bones. Darkness had swallowed him whole in the quiet of those roads and beyond them, settled on the chrome gurney in Deaton’s shop darkness spat out another life.
Allison deserved a future and Isaac had given her just that.
