I'm constantly amazed by the basic widespread hatred for & belittlement of Africa - the use of African phonemes for humorous effect, the consistent attribution of primitivity and naivety to Africans, calling them violent and assuming everyone else thinks so as well
in normal conversation, the assumptions western people make about their own cultures are so lurid to me sometimes in terms of essential ⦠what, Africophobia? - but trying to clearly express why it hits me that way is difficult. I try to find a way to say this culture is not sophisticated or advanced or enlightened at all. Where people of African countries struggle with pressures and realities and their own quality as people, westerners / americans do not do that work. The reality is that even after generations of hostility and attempts at subjugation Africans still treat the world and its people with immense love, on average. The African heart loves the world. Actually what makes me cry is to tell you that the African heart forgives the world.
can you see how huge that is, can you understand how angelic and amazing that is
I can find words to say that, African people I know, including just folks I only briefly connect with on the internet, are so much better than americans on average, in every way that matters to me. The feelings generated are always good. We're spending real moments of time on earth just gushing at each other, "you impress me! your work is so beautiful! tell me more! may I see a picture of your relative you mentioned! ah it warms my heart!" genuine love on tap
something to think about
