Harry Potter and the many mistakes
So... I am currently in the Potterzone. In the past weeks I have bingewatched the movies in one sitting and after that listened to the audiobooks and I’ll probably read the books again too. And yes, I might be procrastinating, but never you mind.Â
That being said, I realised a lot of mistakes in the books. Don’t get me wrong, I still love them, the story itself makes me forgive those mistakes, but my head is revolving around them a lot, so I feel the need to write them down. If you don’t want to know, stop reading right now, cause I will list everything I found. Not all at once and in no particular order, but every tiny thing that I noticed and disturbed me in any way. And yes, I do realise that with that I am being like that one guy in Supernatural at the Con... And yes, I also realise that there’s like a gazillion things like this on the internet already.Â
1) We know that the Potters died on Halloween 1981, which was a saturday. But the book starts with it being tuesday. And it was also said that Hagrid took Harry out of the ruins of the house in Godric’s Hallow on Dumbledor’s orders and brought him to the Dursley’s right away. So am I to take it that little baby Harry was in those ruins for three days? And then, additionally left outside the Dursley’s house for another night? Or had he been taken out the same night and then been brought... where? And what happened there?Â
2) There’s only one all wizard village. All the other wizards live right among muggles, in “communities within communities”. But then... why do so many wizards have trouble dressing like muggles?!Â
3) This one is huge. I’m serious, do not read on if you don’t want the story ruined for you! It’s a major flaw on which the whole story builds on. There was no need for an outside Secret Keeper. Think about it! Bill mentions he is Secret Keeper for his and Fleur’s home. So why did Lily and James even have someone else as Secret Keeper? Especially when they already felt like one of their friends might not be trustworthy. (Remus implies this when he is reunited with Serious) It really makes no sense.
4) How come that nobody was friends with Alice and Frank enough to mention them more? I mean, they were in the Order with everyone. And I guess they must’ve been at school around the time everyone else was. It’s also pointed out they were highly respected and everything. I realise that not everyone who went to school together is very close because of that. But I feel here it would have made sense, given that they too fought Voldemort at a young age and everything.
5) Harry saw his mom die, right? So why doesn’t he see the Thestrals up until he sees Cedric die?!
