“Well . . .” Uncertainty resided in her voice as she debated not only if she should explain, but where to start. There was no way Audrey would believe her. Jane might not even believe it herself if she hadn’t been one to experience it firsthand. But stranger things had happened. Somewhere. Maybe. Someone else might give a better recap than she could. But part of being a good friend was telling the truth, and Jane wanted nothing less than to earn and keep that status. So after a tentative “Alright, but hear me out, okay?” she launched into story followed by story, dating from their most recent catch-up phone call all the way to almost immediately prior to the current one. Minor details were dropped due to irrelevance, but Jane retold most that concerned a certain Prince Charming Jr. —— after all, she had to talk to someone about what she had the familial advantage of witnessing, and Audrey was the only person she’d willingly spill to when it came to that. Then came the actual unbelievable parts, which she told with pacing feet and hands moving about habitually.
Some details were deliberately left out — true love and that sort of thing. 'Being a good friend’ or not, she wasn’t going to be the one to throw that in Audrey’s face. At least, that’s what it felt like she’d be doing. So that part of the fill-in went untold, totally skipped over in one swift change of the story’s direction. Maybe one of the other many elements of the happenings would conceal the plot hole enough to keep Audrey from questioning it. Hopefully, anyway. “I called you as soon as I got my phone back. Pretty unbelievable, right? I just hope I’m not interrupting your night — in all the excitement, I hadn’t even thought about that.”
