I Understand Why You Lied - a one shot for too-busy-banging-boobear
Starbucks outfit (x)
āHey, Lydia.ā my best friend, Ashley, calls. I spin around at the sound of her voice to see her getting closer towards me on the pavement. Sheād begged me to meet her outside starbucks even though I insisted that I wasnāt feeling well and wanted to stay home. Itās quite cold outside today, Iāve only just came out of a long term relationship and all I want to do is sit in front of my TV and watch Pretty Little Liars or some other TV show that I can find on catch up. I look down at my pale blue jeans and light brown UGG boots, along with my burgundy sweater and light brown scarf. I feel around for my light brown feather earrings surrounded by my dark brown wavy hair. I shiver. Ashley reaches me and we go inside the shop. āWhat do you want? Iām paying,ā she smiles.
āIāll haveā¦ā I pause, deciding whether to go for my usual or something different. āCaffĆ© Mocha.ā I say in the end. Ashley orders our drinks, hands over the money and finds us a table in the corner of the room.Ā
āI have an idea that Iād like to propose to you,ā she says.
āā¦Sounds serious.āĀ
āIt is, believe me,ā she teases. āIāve found you a date.āĀ
My mouth drops open at the thought of dating anyone but my ex. If I were to start dating again, Iād want to find the man for myself; not have someone find him for me.Ā
I sip at my drink, āI told you I didnāt want to date anyone,ā I say in disgust.Ā
āI think youāll enjoy it. Besides, I canāt have you mooching around in your room for much longer. Youāre young, girl, you need to get out and have some fun.āĀ
I sigh. Once Ashley has made her mind up, there is no going back. āWho is it?ā
She bursts into laughter. āYouāll see,ā before adding, āYou better dress up though.āĀ
*
The day of my date with the mystery man, I dress up in my coral pink, bandeau dip hem dress. I pair it up with a pair of white, gladiator heels and a white clutch bag. I wear a pear of coral pink earrings along with my crystal studded heart necklace with a hollow middle. I pile up coral pink and white bangles on my arm and tie my wavy brown hair in a side plait down the left side of my torso. I canāt help but feel nervous as I rub a tiny bit of foundation into my skin. I apply a light brown eye shadow over my lid and contour using a darker brown through the crease; I also take this colour along my bottom lash line. I highlight my brow bone with a shimmer, gold eye shadow. Using gel eye liner, I draw a thin line on my I then move onto contouring my cheekbones with my bronzer. Finally, I use my favourite lipstick from Mac, (Angel), finalised with some clear gloss.Ā
When Iām finally happy with my appearance, I join Ashley in the car and she drives me to my date. Showing me to the table, the waitress shoots me a jealous look before walking away. Admiring my manicured nails, Iām confused. Why is the waitress jealous? My date isnāt even here yet. I hear a lot of girls cooing behind me but I donāt look up. Keep your head down and wait for whoever youāve been set up with to arrive. I keep telling myself.Ā
A guy around my age sits opposite me on the table and my head lifts finally. Heās gorgeous with his puppy dog eyes and gorgeous brown hair with a slight quiff at the front. I recognise him from somewhere but I canāt quite figure out where.Ā
āHey, Iām Lydia.ā I smile, being polite even though I really donāt want to be here.Ā
āLiam,ā he replies, nodding. Noticing that Iām looking at him with a state of recognition appearing on my features, he adds, āWhatās up?āĀ
āI recognise you from somewhereā¦ā I say, cautiously. āBut Iām not sure where.āĀ
āProbably just seen me around somewhere or something,ā he says.Ā
āOh,ā I say, although Iām not convinced. However, I let it go and enjoy the rest of my date with the guy sitting opposite me. Heās a really lovely guy and so easy to get along with. He has a good sense of humour and actually finds me funny. Iām usually good with witty comebacks but I feel to many butterflies in my tummy to say any.Ā
The waitress brings us our bill. āSo, is it too soon to ask for a second date?ā Liam asks.Ā
Smiling, I reply, āNot at all.āĀ
Following him outside, I stand next to him as we wait for our rides home. āThereās something I didnāt tell you, Lydia.āĀ
āRight?ā I say, panic rising from my stomach towards my throat, closing it up so I canāt catch air.Ā
āIām in the band One Direction, when you said you recognised me I lied to see if youād like me for who I am and not what I do,ā a sorry look comes over his face as he stares at his feet, embarrassed. Everything clicks together in my head. āIām really sorry, I know it was wrong and selfish.ā
āThatās understandable.ā I simply say. āIt must be hard to tell the difference between who likes you for you and not for your celebrity status.ā I reach for his hand, something I thought Iād never do, and give it a reassuring squeeze. āI understand why you lied, and itās okay. I donāt mind.āĀ
Liam squeezed my hand in return to show his thanks.
āItās not exactly like you lied about being a mass murderer or something⦠unless thereās something youāre not telling meā¦ā I wink.Ā
Liam laughs in return just as Ashley turns up to pick us up and another car comes for Liam. āCall me soon, yeah?ā I say.Ā
āDefinitely.ā
Walking over to Ashleyās car, I open the door. Before getting in, I turn back and wave at Liam before driving away with my best friend.Ā
