Where Have the Youthful Dreams Gone to?
Youthful dreams grant the young ones hope. Despite the wretched state that children suffer, they cling in desperation to these dreams. Although seemingly unrealistic or far from being attained, they serve as a compass that guides them as they grow. These aspirations, made from the tales of innocence, mold the youth into becoming better versions of themselves. As they strive hard for their youthful dreams, realizations disrupt their fancies. A realization changes a man—and when a man changes, so do their dreams (well, most often than not). As life hastily progresses, despite the slow progress in our endeavors, we tend to forget our childhood dreams. Sometimes we pass them down to strangers, leaving essential parts of us to them. Too busy to spare a thought about the almost forgotten dreams, they drown in the sands of time. But, there are special occasions in our lives when they resurface in the present.
How Are the Youthful Dreams Remembered?
The lost aspirations haunt us. Sometimes they come in the form of nostalgia, and sometimes in regret. There are days when these dreams resurface from the graveyard of oblivion to bruise our hearts lightly. And when we try our best to rid them from our train of thoughts, they tattoo themselves into our minds. We remember these lost dreams when we witness circumstances that relate to those dreams. Hearing children share about what they want to be when they grow up also awakens what we now forgot. And, it is impossible to recall these forgotten dreams without feeling bad. Sometimes we look at our reflection and find ourselves in awe of the changes that time brought to us. A combination of feelings hits us as we recollect both the attained and the unattained dreams. This particular moment in our lives musters the desperation to trade all tomorrows for us to relive the past. So, we end up fantasizing about the impossible: talking to our seven or fifteen-year-old selves. But, what good is this conversation for when the prime of our years already turned gray? The passion for these youthful dreams continues to burn bright, but the will grows dim. Thus, we accept the fact that turning back time is impossible even if we hold on to them. The world is generous in offering people a variety of dreams. But, some dreams just cannot be. Despite the heart-shattering act of remembering the now dead aspirations, we remain grateful. This is because these unattained aspirations necessitated us into becoming what we are now—full of wisdom and virtues. This is enough reason to grant us the contentment of the lifetime.
