Matthew and John were out at the town square, rage filling every step in their boots. Ever since the new mayor was elected last November, things had been changing in their small town. Their fathers and pastor said he was infected by the “woke mind virus” and changing their traditional way of life to be un-American and satanic.
That’s why the two friends were protesting. To make their fathers proud.
Things were going fine until Matthew started coughing. Then John started. Neither man could figure out where it was coming from; neither had any allergies to pollen and such and they didn’t have a cough until they got here.
With every cough, a small change occurred. Too subtle to notice at the time but adding up over the course of the parade. Their hair turning black as night, their bodies getting tanned, shirts slowly turning a golden color, losing their sleeves. The two men were already quite muscular from their passion for the gym, but the muscles adjusted themselves to be better suited for sports. Longer and thicker legs, a thinner chest and stomach. Larger feet expanding into new sneakers, size 13 now.
John was the first to think something was wrong as he let out another cough, suggesting with a tinge of fear in his voice—his somehow deeper voice—that they should leave. He dropped his protest sign, left forgotten as the duo tried to push their way through the crowded street.
As they struggled to get through the maze of pride flags and other rainbows, coughing even more now, Matthew could feel his mind rewriting itself. Images of John filled his imagination, painting him in a new light. Matthew had never noticed how curvy John’s ass was before. A perky little bubble butt he wanted to squeeze. His soft lips the perfect size for biting during a kiss. He wondered what his tongue would feel like in his mouth or on his—
‘Wait,’ he thought in a panic, coughing again. ‘I’m not some queer! I’m…’
But as he tried to think about his past girlfriends, the thought just seemed wrong. Kinda gross, even. He couldn’t even imagine being with a woman anymore. Matt felt something in his chest as his mind slowly rewrote itself to acceptance.
It almost felt like pride. He wanted to shout it from the rooftops.
I
Cough.
AM
Cough.
GAY AS FUCK!
As the changes finally slowed and the coughing fits stopped, Matt turned to his boyfriend Jack as the crowd cheered around them. He’d never felt so loved as he did in that moment. He needed to kiss this perfect man.
It turns out their dads were right. The woke mind virus had done its job, but neither man seemed to mind. In fact, they thought they should show their dads they had nothing to worry about with it.
They’d make them proud.
Happy pride, everyone! Shine golden like the star you are!
