Meet 'Bait'. An unfortunate aphid who has inherited the responsibility of caring for his aphid brethren- none of whom have the ability to take a humanoid form, like him. Unfortunately, where he lives, aphids are basically just seen as food, with them being able to transform being pretty much unheard of. Which means, most people don't really care that he can form complex thoughts and communicate- he's just a bigger meal.
Bait is normally seen in his human form, but it takes a lot of energy to maintain, so he always has to turn back to his aphid form to recuperate. He can compromise by shrinking down in his human form, so that he doesn't turn back into a bug, but the price is that it takes twice as long to recuperate since he's still using up energy.
Whether or not he can regenerate is still up in the air... I think it will largely depend on my mood and the setting~ If he does get digested/kill't for good then I'll just view it as one of many timelines.
