Kat and her father Vinnie originally began volunteering at The People’s Pantry in order to satisfy a school requirement. Kat, a high school freshman, needed to complete 40 hours of volunteer service before she could be accepted into The National Honor Society. This acceptance is extremely important to Kat but because she is too young to drive herself, her father naturally became her ride! Vinnie could have simply dropped his daughter off at the Pantry, but instead he chose to support Kat and volunteer himself. They began coming to our Pantry twice a week and immediately fell in love with the atmosphere and our clients. In fact, by the end of the summer Kat and Vinnie ended up volunteering for 86 hours (more than double her original requirement). “I would like to drop out of school and volunteer full time!” Kat joked while she skillfully displayed dozens of desserts her father had lugged from the back. Since they enjoyed their time here so much they plan to continue volunteering whenever their schedules allow during the school year. Thank you Kat and Vinnie for choosing to volunteer at our Pantry. Your enthusiasm and genuine compassion for our clients is palpable. You are both extremely hard workers and we wish Kat the best in applying for The National Honor Society! She deserves it.
