When in 2007 our grandmother died, I was devastated. My little sister that was only 9 back then, with all her childish optimism and innocence, was the one that put a smile back on my face. She managed to distract me from the pain. And she has being doing that ever since. 

A few years ago when I created my personal hell and had to spend there 3 years, she was there for me again. It is not that something so bad happened to me. Not really. It was more like the way I was seeing the world and myself. I had to grow up and leave my home and my country in order to get better education. The thing is, I also took my social anxiety and panic attacks with me, when I left. Suddenly I was alone in a foreign country and as “good” as I am at making friends, I stayed alone during the whole 3 years. And of course I was blaming myself for being the way I am, which made me fall even deeper into desperation and self hatred. There were days when I couldn’t see the point of it anymore. I just wanted the pain and loneliness to stop. There were days when the silence in my home was driving me crazy...it was so lonely and silent, I could hear my own heartbeat. There were nights when my thought wound’t leave me alone. There were moments when I really just wanted to die. And the only reason I didn’t was, because there was this not so little girl anymore, that was there talking to me every second she can, distracting me from the pain and my own thoughts, watching tv shows with me on skype till late in the night until we both got so tired, we couldn’t keep our eyes open. She did that for 3 years. She was there, every evening on skype, making me forget about my fears and social anxiety and self hatred. She was the only person that I could talk to about my problems, that would just listen and wouldn’t judge. And I know it wasn’t easy for her either. There was so much negativity in me back then, I almost drowned in it. The only reason I didn’t is that she was there to take part of it away from me.
