i used to think i was having a boy. i don’t know why, it’s just what i pictured. i pictured blue and sports and my husband celebrating and “my boys”. i pictured my daughters with older brothers, just like me. but when we saw the “hamburger” on the screen and the tech said, “you’re having a little girl!” i thought, of course. of course it’s a girl.
i have so much to teach a little girl. i’ve lived a thousand lives in this body as a woman and i’m only 25. i know the ups and the downs of womanhood, i know how women treat other women, and how men do too. i know exactly what to say to her. because it’s all the stuff i would say to my younger self. and now i can no longer imagine the little boy in blue. i can only imagine a little girl looking up to me, for guidance. and i can’t wait to teach her everything i know. about loving herself. about the strength and resilience of women.
