Mkay, so this is my first post on tumblr, so bear with me here. Also, please don’t say that this post is invalid or something, it’s just a personal headcanon I have. Also, I’m not exactly clear on the lore of it all, kinda confusing, so once again, bear with me. Now with all that out of the way:

Pregame Kokichi and Pregame Maki are often portrayed as friends, with Maki protecting Kokichi from all the bullying, right? Well, my headcanon is that Kokichi grew to admire Maki so much for helping him out with the bullies that he develops feels for her, but never shows it. In fact, he was working up the courage to confess before entering Danganronpa. But, then he got brainwashed and Maki absolutely despised him and became close with Kaito.

Now imagine if Kokichi remembered that he used to have a crush on Maki during the game. A way to motivate Kaito and himself would not only be to save everyone, but Maki especially, which leads to what happens in Chapter 5. But I also think that Kokichi, if he did remember, would regret not telling Maki sooner. Realizing now, he’s too late.
