Recently been liking the idea of Grace being the predator in these stories. (Unhealthy yes I know but space makes people crazy)
Poor Rocky getting chased around the Mary like a mouse in a tank while a cat bats the glass and stalks it. Rocky puffing up and trying to be brave. He's a predator too right? He can do this. He can- oh fuck he's STILL there? How is he still there? Why wont he give up? He's so damn persistent..
They can't actually touch each other, and Grace dosen't WANT to hurt him, but it's too intriguing. It's not like he can actually eat him, but the adrenaline of hunting satiates a part of his hunger he can't fill with Taoumeba.
And it's not all the time. No, Grace isn't predatory and instinctual all the time. He still does science. He still talks to Rocky. Because Rocky is his friend. His only friend now. So that makes him his best friend.
It was just a game at first.
Grace showing him how humans hunt. But now he can't stop. Even when Rocky is tucked away, small and scared, asking Grace to stop. Telling him the game is over, pleading for him to stop. But Grace doesn't. He can't stop. Something about this.. it makes him feel alive. Something he so despret to have proof he's hanging onto. He needs to remember he's alive. He NEEDS to be alive. Because if he's not? He's dead. He's a ghost floating and haunting the stars like his crew mates.
But now there' a separate problem. Rocky is terrified of what Grace is going to do on Erid. Grace says he's sorry, says he's only doing it because he's starving, promises he doesn't really mean anything he does to scare him. But he won't stop. And while Eridians are pack hunters and are very successful, He doesn't truely want to loose his friend. He doesn't want Grace to get trampled to death because he freaked out a pack of Eridians.
Plus.. He's a little worried.. Rocky isn't the best hunter on the planet, but he's a very good one. And if Grace can terrorize him like this, catch him by sitting and watching for hours, slowly walking towards him with no where else to go? What if Grace didn't stop even after he's no longer starving? What if Grace decides tapping the xenonite barrier isn't enough. What if he decides that maybe hunting to completion is more fun? Perhaps killing prey is an acquired taste one develops.
Statistically, Rocky knows an entire planet agasint a singular alien would be an obvious win, but Grace told him about the mammoths. How people were able to take down beasts 6 times their size and weight just by stalking. The only good thing is Grace admitted that hunting while Rocky was sleeping was extremely boring and not fun at all. So at least that confirmed his worry about Grace targeting sleeping friends on the planet.
Their relationship is strained. Tense. Rocky tiptoes around trying not to activate Grace's chase response. Grace tries hard not to think about how fun it was to tackle Rockys ball before the alien screeched in a frequently that nearly busted his ear drums.
One minute they'll be fine. The next, Grace had a certain shine to his eyes, creeping slowly up behind him with a concentrating look and hunger in his eyes.

You know, for a predator therian, I have a very low prey drive. Like, once every couple of months, I'll see a bird and my predatory instincts tell me to chase it and kill it. But the rest of the time, I just see the bird and my first thought is "friend. Must bother friend. Must not hurt friend" and I just chase it like an idiot.
I love animals. I could never actually hurt an animal. Which is weird because every time someone makes me angry, I imagine my fangs in their skin, like, vividly. It's just a phantom symptom thing that I can't control. But I would also never hurt another person. I hate conflict. Idk, I'm just a walking contradiction 🤷🏽♀️
I feel the need to chomp. Like, my teeth yearn for the feeling of flesh or just something nice to chew on. I long for the feeling of prey; of flesh and bone, but nothing does the trick. I've tried those silicone or rubber pencil topper things, I've tried just eating meat but nothing does the trick. Curse this stupid human body and it's stupid limits and societal standards TwT
