I’m preaching on John 9, which is where Jesus brings sight to a man born blind after his disciples ask “Who sinned, this man or his parents, that he was born blind” and Jesus shuts that bs down by saying neither sinned.
I’m looking for some theology of disability written by actually disabled people as I work on this sermon -- I want to talk about the dangers of reading this passage and many other passages featuring Jesus healing a blind/deaf/disabled person as him “fixing” something intrinsically broken in them. To me, Jesus’s healings of disabled individuals are more about helping them back into a community that unfortunately ostracizes those with disabilities as well as about them coming to know and form a relationship with Jesus -- but it’s hard to find theology on that or a lot of explicit biblical basis.
So yes, if you have a disability (physical, intellectual, developmental, etc.) and have any thoughts on this topic, or if you know of any resources for this topic, please share!
I'm just saying!
I'm really blunt and sometimes people don't like what I have to say. Owell. Im kinda sensitive to certain areas, I may look confident all the time but I am insecure lmao. Surprise surprise. Idunno mannnnn!
