insomnia - a skylanders mini fic
🌀🌀🌀
Tempest breathed deeply as he opened his eyes, rubbing his blue eyes with a wing as he tried to get rid of the sleepy feeling that clung to him from his restless sleep. His ears perked as he heard deep breathing and the occasional snore from fellow Air Skylanders. From what the hybrid could see through the tall windows, the sky was still slightly dark with night but the creamy pink light near the horizon hinted at the upcoming sunrise.
The blue dragon sat up in his canopy bed and yawned quietly while stretching his front legs, soon followed by the back, knowing that it was too late to try and fall back asleep. His wings stretched out beside him, the stubborn achy feeling fading away as he did so. Being as quiet as he could be, Tempest dropped from his bed, his wings stretching to silence his fall as he landed on the cold pale blue tiled floor.
This was the third day in a row that he wasn't able to get a good night's rest.
Tempest moved the door with a wing, using his claws to hook around the door and walked through it, closing it gently behind him as to not wake his teammates. He walked idly through the hall before making his way to the main hall. The chilly early morning breeze danced through his fur and the sun began to rise as he walked through the highly arched doorway of one of the exits, leading to the outside.
As he felt grass under his claws and the wind in his fur, Tempest felt a smile cross his features. He stretched his wings, the cool air rushing through his blue feathers, and got himself airborne. The hybrid flew across the small islands, swimming inbetween the pink clouds and taking in the gorgeous view of the sunrise before he landed on an island overlooking the rest of the academy.
He curled up on the floating island, his wings folding and his tail tucked beneath him. There were spots of action here and there, probably from the ninja oriented Skylanders who always liked to rise early and sleep early. Tempest sighed gently and shuffled in his position, before he heard a flapping of wings behind him.
The hybrid turned around, a quizzical expression crossing his features as he saw that there was nobody there. Suddenly, a harmless warm blast of fire appeared in front of him before his friend Sunburn quickly appeared, scorching the grass underneath his talons before it was quickly overtaken by green once more.
“You’re up early,” the phoenix-dragon hybrid remarked with a teasing smile. Tempest sighed good naturedly and rolled his eyes.
“So are you,” Tempest replied with a small laugh.
