#animal tuesday No, this is not an alien mask of a Hollywood movie set, although it could be. A lot of monsters and aliens in movies have been inspired by real animals after all. However, this is the head of a praying mantis called Idolomantis diabolica, sub-adult Idolomantis diabolica is a large mantis of the family Empusidae. Females grow to be about 13 centimetres (about 5 inches) in length and males about 10 centimetres (about 4 inches). They are native to Ethiopia, Kenya, Malawi, Domalia, Tanzania, and Uganda. Its threat display is magnificently colored, with red, white, blue, purple and black. I absolutely adore praying mantids. I think ALL animals are important and should be treated with respect, not just the the pretty and kuddly looking ones. What is your opionion on that? #prayingmantis #prayingmantiskungfu #prayingmantids #insects_of_our_world #fascinatinganimals #animalfacts #allanimalsmatter #crazyanimals #uglyanimals #saveanimals #animalconservation #animalkingdom #wondersoftheworld #wonderfulnature #natureisbeautiful #aliensarereal #insectphotography #didyouknowfacts #whatonearth https://www.instagram.com/p/B-YpLpHpLyW/?igshid=1vk0iqji16wst
Praying mantis - #wildlifewednesday - Of the thousands of species out there to date, only a minimal number of #prayingmantids are actually native to North America, as the majority are tropical. In fact, if you come across a #prayingmantis in the #garden, it's most likely to be an introduced species than native. Nonetheless, these #insects are fascinating creatures and fun to watch.
