This poem is written by Rabindranath Tagore when India was under British rule.  Where the Mind is Without Fear was included in the volume called ‘Naibedya’, the original poem bears the title ‘Prarthana’ meaning prayer. The poem is a prayer to God about the poet’s imagination of India after freedom. He prays for an India where everyone should be free without any oppression so that they could hold their head high in dignity. There must be freedom of thoughts and education should be under reach of every Indian. A country where women are not confined in homes and which is not divided by gender,caste,culture and creed. Where free thoughts should have no restrictions and should be under our control so that we should not get arrogant. He said to God that in such type of heaven of freedom he wants his country to be independent.
