Wear-a-Pair day two
Today I want to talk about the main idea behind TheShoeThatGrows. And that idea is practical compassion. Kenton lee, the founder of this amazing organization, visited country with a lot of poorer citizens, and noticed that because it was so difficult for people to obtain new clothing, they made that clothing last far longer than any is us would even think. This was especially true for shoes. We've all seen pictures of it kids in third world countries who've outgrown their shoes, but because they can not get a new pair they resort to altering the shoes they have to accommodate their growing feet, usually but cutting out the front so their toes hang out the front. Now living in America if we saw this we would think why haven't their parents just gotten them new shoes, but beyond the fact that some of these k ids may not have parents, is the fact that those parents are struggling to feed and shelter those kids and so clothing them is far beyond their means. By creating a show that will grow with these kids we've taken a huge burden off of their caretakers and helped them stay healthy. By using this idea of practical compassion we help not just for a few days, a few months, or at best a year, we help for up to five years and possibly longer. We CHANGE their lives for years. And while all gifts of necessities are wonderful, giving them something that lasts for years will obviously make an even bigger difference. And it's this idea that I stand behind. Not just helping that one day, or one month, but years of help and years of better health for these people.
