wine bottle is almost empty, and their glasses are half full. normally, he’d have a stupid grin on his face --- but it has long since faded, instead being replaced by a tired frown. he’s sitting leaned back in the couch, a pillow in his arms. worry etched across features that hardly ever seem to be burdened by anything other than positive energy and bright smiles. it looks almost wrong on him ( yet it is a look that will become more and more well worn the further the war progresses ). "listen man,” he says and sinks further into the couch. suddenly very grateful that lily or sirius or remus can’t see him in this state. somehow, it feels more all right that it’s peter that he leans on, when it comes to stuff like this ---- peter has always been that friend that james never has to worry about what he will think. whether or not he will be disappointed, if he will judge him. “i dunno if i can do this. the whole being a dad thing.” he pauses, letting the words hang in the air, definitively thinking that it’s a terrible thing for him to say --- just the fact that he’s even thinking it makes his heart ache. “what if i’m properly shit at it? what the hell do i do then?”
