Freya, I'm loving getting these glimpses into your craft and process for the writing asks game, especially when you talked about imagining the inner workings of someone's life as an exercise in empathy. This is one of the reasons I love reading. Just exploring a person's life and thinking, putting myself in their shoes.

4. what does it take for you to be proud of something you’ve written?
oh, this is a tough one!! I think, similarly to how erika @kedsandtubesocks answered this same question, finishing something is definitely a big source of pride. perhaps due to the adhd or general chaos that resides in my brain, I tend to end up with a lot of wips that just... languish at the 70% done mark and really have to wrestle myself into getting them to the finish line, if I can at all. so finishing something (esp if it doesn't feel like pulling teeth) absolutely makes me feel a little proud.
there's also a particular joy that comes from having someone pick out one of my favorite lines in a comment or reblog - feeling especially satisfied with how a sentence turned out is one nice thing, but seeing someone resonate w that sentence is just!!! how lovely!!! what a blessing!!!
sometimes I go back to read my own fics after they've been posted for a while, and tbh I'm also proud anytime I can do that and not cringe. if I go back and enjoy the thing I wrote, that's a treat :,)
I've just finished the last chapter of SYAT for the second time. Sad it's over, but the ending could not have been more perfect for that little family. As I was reading it, it made me think of my favorite book, The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane by Kate DiCamillo. This is technically a children's book, but like all of the best children's literature, it's really not. There is an epigraph at the beginning of the book from a poem that reads:
The heart breaks and breaks
and lives by breaking.
It is necessary to go
through dark and deeper dark
and not to turn.
This just made me think of Joel and everything he's gone through. He doesn't turn, and look how it turns out.

but yesss it's been so interesting to read folks' reactions to materialists!! I was also surprised to see some of the reactions to it - I'll yap a little under the cut & tag to hopefully save folks from spoilers/details, but I'm gonna try not to spill the whole plot!!
HI!! okay so for real past lives is one of my favorite movies ever, so I was gonna be sat in that theater even if pedro wasn't in it and will do so again for any movie celine song ever makes lmao <3 and on a surface level I thought materialists was fun! there were some writing decisions I didn't totally understand, but I knew the trailer was going to be misleading and tbh I dig it when movies subvert expectations, so I wasn't mad about the vibe being a little different than expected (though I would still love to see her make a straight up romcom).
also wasn't surprised to see harry's screen time be so low. the reveal of his "investment" made him so interesting/complicated/compelling, like there's so much potential for juicy nuance there - so it was a little bit of a bummer to see the breakup scene end so swiftly. but I get it!! he wasn't the main character. that's what fics are for :-)
some of the other casting didn't totally hit the spot for me and I think probably influenced how much I connected w the movie, but I'm not here to hate on anyone. and there were a lot of bits that were really fun!! fun soundtrack, some lovely cinematography some really good lines, a dash of yearning, a really compelling peek into a world eons away from my own experience dating (rich people world is crazyy), harry castillo being a walking heartthrob like ooooof. I'd watch it again!
