This last #Womanshistorymonth💗 goes out to all the Women that have helped Honey Child be much much much more than I ever knew that I could be. From @blackculinary for keeping me tethered, enriched by, included in Black American Culinary, and real kinship and Sisterhood. @apublishedevent have taught me more about writing, digital performance, sharing vulnerability, and intimate generosity. They improved everything about me as an artist. They rallied with their friends and upgraded everything about HC from my logo, to building my site, to helping sell (and deliver) food they made their friends order. @helen_lehane gave me my first retail outlet and bought my first license. The power trio of Momma Fran, Tan, and Jodie held my first cooking classes at theirs, helped peel mountains of potatoes, rolled mtrs of pastry, printed labels, and called in help through their ranks in my Darkest [email protected] and her incredible family (Ivy not pictured but deep in my heart 24/7) are 100% my army, muses, and cheerleaders, @darcmeadow has authored and is helping on digital dreams yet to come. @jeanettefindlay is my Example in everything from being an incredible Sistah, to a world class cook, and vocal champion and Ally. @roomforjillo has entrusted me to test her incredible recipes and is 24/7 Fairy CakeGoddess indoor, advice, and support. @vintagetasmania you cannot find a more supportive, loving, brilliant cheer Goddess. Today's #womenshistorymonth love goes to the Honorable Ketanji Brown Jackson! 💝 President Biden declared, “I believe it’s time that we have a court that reflects the full talents and greatness of our nation.” With his nominee standing alongside, the president praised her as having “a pragmatic understanding that the law must work for the American people.” He said, “She strives to be fair, to get it right, to do justice.” He also chose an attorney who would be the high court’s first former public defender, though she possesses the elite legal background of other justices as well. She would replace liberal Justice Stephen Breyer, 83, who is retiring at the end of the term this summer, so she won’t change the court’s 6-3 conservative majority. Jackson would join the court as it weighs cutbacks to abortion rights and will be considering ending affirmative action in college admissions and restricting voting rights efforts to increase minority representation. She would be only the sixth woman to serve on the court, but she would join three others already there, including the first Latina, Justice Sonia Sotomayor. In brief remarks, Jackson thanked Biden, saying she was “humbled by the extraordinary honor of this nomination.” She highlighted her family’s first-hand experience with the entirety of the legal system, as judges and lawyers, an uncle who was Miami’s police chief and another who was imprisoned on drug charges. Today We Honor Alice Augusta Ball A Woman Who Changed The World… Alice Augusta Ball earned a master’s degree, the first woman—and first African-American woman—to do so at the University of Hawai‘i. The first woman instructor in the UH chemistry department, her work in 1916 led to the first treatment for Hansen’s disease, bringing hope to thousands of patients who had previously only known despair. Sadly, Ball did not receive credit for her scientific contribution for many years. She died before she could publish her findings, and another chemist continued her research and published it as his own. Then in 1922, a U.S. public health officer in Hawai‘i named Dr. Harry Hollmann published an article explaining how he had approached the young chemistry instructor to apply her expertise to extracting the essence of the chaulmoogra tree.
