Hi! I was looking for advice on how to write/play (for a ttrpg) a character who uses crutches? There is a type of weapon in the game we’re playing (Starfinder) that transforms into tattoos when not in use. My idea was to use this for a different purpose, as her crutches, so that she could have her hands free when they are not in use. She would use them nearly all the time while walking, and only put them away to sit or otherwise rest or while fighting, where she would put one crutch away, lean on the other, and use a weapon in her free hand. Do you think this is an appropriate way to go about this? For backstory, she suffered nerve damage in her legs from a treatable disease that killed her mother and father, and she now actively fights against oppressive systems that keep life saving medicine and treatment from poor people. Thanks for any advice you can provide <3
Hey, thank you for your ask! I think the game mechanic modification is a good idea-- depending on the way your story goes/the worldbuilding you do, you could look into your character’s interactions with the tattoos specifically-- did she get them when she started fighting more often, or is this an adaptation many people take advantage of in everyday life? If her crutches are damaged or worn down, do the tattoos have to be ‘assigned,’ (for lack of a better word) to a new pair, for example?
