Powder Grey, one of the youngest of the Greys, was having trouble making friends. He was shy in that regard, and did not know how to approach someone, or when it was ok to make a friend.
He mentioned his concern to his eldest brother, Thunder Grey. Thunder has a very different personality than Powder, and never had any trouble making friends.
Thunder knew that Powder would make a great friend to a great many people, and so taught him three easy ways to make friends.
"Well Powder, the easiest way, in my opinion, is if you see someone doing something you like to do, like reading a book that you have enjoyed, is to just walk right up and ask about what they are reading and if they like it. Then introduce yourself and start the conversation about the book. Or hobby or playing that they are doing," Thunder said.
"Like if they are playing ninjas?" Powder asked.
"Yes, if they are playing ninjas and you like playing ninjas, then ask if you can join them," Thunder said.
"What is another way to make a friend?" Powder asked.
"Another way to make a friend is if you see someone maybe looking at what you are doing, is to invite them to join you. So if you are playing in the sand, and someone looks like they want to join you, then ask them to join you. They may be more nervous and shy than you are about meeting a new friend," Thunder said.
"Ok. I want to meet that person," Powder pointed to someone across the room, and Thunder gently pushed his hand down.
"It's impolite to point. Just go over and introduce yourself, and tell them why you are here. It's a good way to start a conversation," Thunder said.
Powder nodded, and went off to introduce himself, knowing that this was probably just as exciting and nerve-wracking to the person he wanted to meet.
Powder found out her name was TD, and asked her to join he and Thunder for lunch.
Of course Thunder said yes, and they all enjoyed a vegetable pie, glad to have made new friends.
Remember, it's easy to make friends with a little bit of effort and curiosity.
