Drippy Cylinder (glaze fail) + cat leg
this cylinder made from white stoneware is one of my many glaze fails this past season. glazed this one using a white base called toshiko white and raspberry drips around the rim. obviously the raspberry glaze was not concentrated enough. even if its a fail i still want to catalog it to keep myself #humble lol.
if i ever want to attempt this color combination again i neeeed to make sure to do multiple coats of the raspberry glaze. but to be honest, i don't think i will. this cylinder is just gonna be used as a lowly storage container for something... or i'll just give it away.

Huh. I've been slow drying this in my pottery wet box and when I checked on it this week it has decided to crack 😩
It cracked along the interface between coloured and uncoloured porcelain so I'm guessing it's some kind of flocculant issue. But I'm not sure how to explore this problem in more detail. I'll have to see if maybe I can find a pottery text book that might explain this issue in more detail.
Dunting might be the cause of the bottom crack. The floating blue ended up too thick on the inside of the pot and the outside had no glaze on it creating stress across the bottom. Also, large flat bottom may have created an extreme heat gradient across the piece due to the flat/thick bottom acting as a heat sink to the shelf

Bloating may have been caused by either impurities in the Moroccan sand clay body, or Moroccan sand might be bad at handling excess heat and bloated because it was too close to a heating element.
The URL still showed up crisp and the stein is still pretty so I'm gonna glue it back together and send it to my friend anyways. I'll just add a note not to drink from it 😂
