This is a song that really helps me out when in need. A song that reminds me that my life has improved so much this past years, and that I’m a strong human being who has overcome a lot of hard stuff that almost no one knows about, and that I can overcome anything that comes.
Marina’s discography feels so close to me for a lot of reasons; it feels like every album describes me in most of the phases of my life.
The Family Jewels feels so angry, and that’s how I felt while growing into puberty. Complete anger and hate towards anything and everything. They had taken away what was most important to me back then (gymnastics), and I think no one understood how important that was to me, and how heartbroken I felt. To be an Olympic gymnast had been my dream since I was like 2 yrs old, and I felt like everyone around me was the reason that I wasn’t able to achieve that dream.
Then came the sadness. The self hate. The “end it all already” feeling that followed me through every day of my early teens. Electra Heart must be one of the most heartbreaking albums that I’ve ever heard, mostly because I felt so identified with it –and I knew that it wasn’t a good thing.
And lastly, Froot. An album that really opened my eyes. It made me realize that, yes, I had suffered a lot and I had every right of being angry and sad, but I also had every right to be happy. To learn from my mistakes and from every sad event that I had live, and finally move on. And this song represents everything of that. So I hope it will make some of you happy too! 😁
