EDD WOULD BE LYING if he said he and tormund hadnât been waiting for news about jon. it was hard to let him leave for kingâs landing with the dragon queen. edd couldnât watch him leave again, even if he was too weak to stop him. . . his back still hurts, but he can walk around now. how humiliating it had been for him to be taken out so early. itâs lucky that heâs alive. still, they let jon go, and they went back to the wall together -- to rebuild the world behind the wall.Â
there was hope that jon would come back and join them. edd sincerely hoped so; he didnât want his last memory of jon snow to be while heâd been lying in bed incapacitated. jon had looked at him with such pity, and edd hated him for it. no, that tearful goodbye could not have been it. edd wouldnât allow it.Â
âtormund -- â edd shouts when he receives the raven, eyes wide.  âtormund!â heâs tripping in the snow, hurrying over to his friend. according to the note, jon had KILLED the queen . . . and had been sentenced to spending the rest of his life in the nightâs watch.
jon is coming home. . . but neither of them imagined it to be like this. edd stands at the north gate as it opens, as jon is revealed to him behind it. . . and GODS, he looks awful. the last weeks have not been kind to him. what happened to you? echoes in his head, but he doesnât make a comment about that. instead, instead, edd tries to be playful.  âdonât think youâre getting the bloody cloak back now.â he warns, offering a weak smile.Â
then, eddâs walking toward him, arms outstretched.
he pulls his friend tightly into his arms, cradling jonâs head to him. Â
âWELCOME HOME, jon. weâve missed you.â | @killthebxy
