Okay, I need to talk about this thing Iâm making. Me getting an Ao3 account, the shitposting. It all comes down to thisâŚ
Iâm writing my first AU!!! :D
Itâs a Universal Monsters AU called âPost Mortemâ, and thereâs 3 key parts of it that I want to break down:
-At its core, itâs a story about friendship and camaraderie between women. The main cast consists of six women in these filmsâ Elizabeth and the Bride from Frankenstein, Mina and Lucy from Dracula, Gwen from the Wolf Man and Kay from Creature From the Black Lagoonâ who are each going through their own traumas and find healing in their friendships with each other. But conflict arises when external forces try to take one of their ownâŚ
-This is also a story about âwhat ifsâ. A lot of them, in fact. The big one is âWhat if the Bride had survived instead of Victor Frankenstein?â His death leaves Elizabeth stuck as the unofficial guardian of the Bride, who she names Viveka. In search of a fresh start, they move to a new home and meet other women who, just like them, have experience with monsters, both literal and figurative. Each of the other characters has their own âwhat ifâ that made their story different from the one seen onscreen, and the reason the story is called âPost Mortemâ is because theyâre all getting on with their lives after the fact.
-Itâs set in Darkmoor⌠kind of. I figured it would be the perfect backdrop for the story, but thatâs all it isâ a backdrop. I acknowledge that Darkmoor has its own lore system, and a deeply intricate storyline and worldbuilding. Post Mortem might take cues from that, but itâs largely the same in name and appearance only.
Iâm still working out a lot of the specifics of this one, but I wanted to soft launch its existence so I can tell people about it. Iâm super excited to share and my ask box is gathering dust from disuse, so if you want to, please drop me an ask about it!!! It would mean a lot, honestly!!!

As a creative question: why did you choose the name Viveka for the Bride? It fits her really well vibes-wise
lore wise: super curious if you have any info about Kay to share. Sheâs the only scientist of the six (I think?), so does that impact her character at all?
Iâm glad you asked! Itâs a pun name. Viveka means âaliveâ. Yknow, like âitâs alive!â Thatâs also her name in Monster High, but I canât remember if I was thinking of that when I picked it or not.
Kayâs scientist background comes into play quite a bit. Her âwhat ifâ is âwhat if she was the lone survivor of the Black Lagoon expedition?â, and itâs established that all of that affected her deeply. Darkmoor is her hometown, and she moves back there just after it happens (which, coincidentally, is around when Elizabeth moves there). In spite of everything sheâs been through, she still loves marine biology more than anything and will talk your ear off about it if given the chance.

What's Post Mortem about?
Ok I have a more detailed outline here, but the basic premise is that itâs a Universal Monsters AU/crossover set after Bride of Frankenstein, but with one crucial change: the Bride survived, but Henry didnât. This leaves Elizabeth with the challenge of looking after her. She names her Viveka, and in the hopes that the previous creatureâs reputation wonât screw her over, she moves the two of them (and the old maid Minnie) to Darkmoor. Itâs here the group meets the women of the other monster films, who are all going through their own struggles and feel like nobody can possibly understand what happened to them. Together, they all work through their struggles as they find themselves up against new threats to their home.
